When Zika hits, a push for birth control and abortion?

NEW YORK (AP) — There's little doubt: Zika is coming to the continental United States, bringing frightening birth defects — and, most likely, newly urgent discussions about abortion and contraception.

Fearful they might bear children who suffer from brain-damaging birth defects caused by Zika, more women are expected to look for ways to prevent or end pregnancies. But the highest risk of Zika spreading is in Southern states where long-lasting birth control and abortions are harder to procure, and where a mosquito that transmits the virus already is plentiful.

"I think it's really important, facing this potential for Zika transmission in the U.S., to be thoughtful and prepared to have straightforward conversations about reproductive health services," said Dr. Christine Curry, a University of Miami obstetrician who has been treating women concerned about Zika infection.

The issues already have been raised in Latin America, epicenter of the Zika epidemic and home to numerous countries where abortion is illegal.

Zika is a hoax. It is being used to spread abortion across Latin America. Don't be gullible and fall for yet another scary virus that you'll forget about in six months. These public health zealots have an agenda.

C-Diff kills more Americans than car wrecks. Totally preventable. Ever hear of it?

Hospital infections are rampant, but we are trained to worship the med establishment, so who cares? But a couple of people get ebola and the country goes insane.

We live in a dark age.

Test and dont let infected third world people into this country. Mosquitoes cant fly from South America. If infected people arent here for domestic mosqjtoes to bite nothing can spread.

Believe it or not, some population freaks of the early '70s actually thought the return of malaria in the 3rd World due to the banning of DDT was a bonus. Just like Mr. Scrooge.

Trigglypuff is a prime argument for both, I’ll grant.

Better that thousands of normal children be slaughtered than that one microceph be born.

All of the first three of those can be prevented with daily sunshine in the summer and Vitamin D-3 supplement in the winter. I suspect zika is the same.

First microcephaly born in Puerto Rico yesterday.

When the Zika virus scuttles the Caribbean cruise industry, Trump can hire the ships to take illegals back down south. It would only take about 12,000 cruises.

A vaccine ASAP for which there will be no long-term knowledge of its affect. Pharmaceutical companies will profit mightily from the endeavor. Everyone in countries such as the US will be badgered into getting the vaccine, to protect us from diseases spread mostly by invaders and "migrants" (ie: legal invaders).

Just a guess.

hmmmm.....just got a flashy post card from Carnival. There are sales and freebies for what should be prime times and ports.

Yep. Daily flights south of the border. Fumigate the hell out of them after we seal the border. When all of South America is pin headed they wont know enough to migrate anyway.

This is a question I’ve had: If someone comes to the US already infected with Zika, and is bitten by a mosquito here (any mosquito) can that mosquito further transfer Zika?

No.

Zika isn't life threatening. The link to birth defects is precarious at best. This is being stirred up to terrify the gullible. This is the "Never let a crisis go to waste!" crowd in action.

Well, I was just curious, because when you read the CDC website, it’s not very clear as to whether ‘United-States-ian’ mosquitos can transfer the virus from one already-infected person to another.

DDT. Outlawed because of *stars* protests. Countless people
worldwide have suffered & died because DDT was on the radar
briefly for various Hollywood stars.

I take garlic capsules to ward off the mosquitos out here on
the river. Even the “odorless” ones seem to sweat out &
stink enough to repel them and also ticks don’t seize.

Those mosquito nets help some in hot climates.
