Mississippi School District Ordered to Desegregate Its Schools

federal court has ordered a town in Mississippi to desegregate its high schools and middle schools, ending a five-decade-long legal battle over integrating black and white students.

The United States District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi ordered the Cleveland School District to consolidate the schools after rejecting two alternatives proposed by the school district, saying they were unconstitutional.

Ah well to YOU it is about how the kids are doing.
To the SJW and faux outraged it is about perceived equality of facilities.

The continued rise in private schools (either parochial schools or toney rich kid schools), as well as charter or magnet schools (mostly for kids from the 'hood whose parents care about the quality of their education) puzzles analysts.

I wonder what the real story is.
From Wikipedia, “The racial makeup of the city was 49.90% White, 48.26% African American”

Cleveland is shares the seat of Bolivar County with Rosedale. Bolivar County demographics, again from Wikipedia,
“The racial makeup of the county was 65.11% Black or African American”

As I said, I wonder what the real story is.
I suspect the “white schools “ are private academies bought and paid for by the parents in order to keep their kids alive, at least until they graduate from high school.

Yup. I wonder what the real story is.

mostly black East Side High School

There's your answer. The blacks live in black neighborhoods on the east side of town. For some reason, minorities usually live on the east and south side of cities and white tend to live on the north and west sides.

I was in school when Dallas, TX decided to bus black kids to white schools and whites to black schools back in the early 70s. I lived 4 houses from my jr. high and high school but I wouldn't be allowed to attend my high school until my senior year. That makes sense only to lib politicians. That first year was a horror in every sense of the word. Hence, the white flight. My old school and neighborhood is now black and run down. Apparently, no one has learned in 40-some years what a total and complete failure busing is.

In fact, one of the last cases decieded by the SCOTUS, Justice Thomas wrote a scathing opinion on it.

“Is there more to the story? For example, are the schools there segregated because whites are mostly on one side of town, and blacks reside in other areas, and the school boundaries based on housing patterns resulted in mostly white and mostly black schools?”

That’s exactly what it is, all it will do is increase enrollment in private schools as the white students flee.

“huh? How could they still be segregated?”

Seems crazy.

Sixty years after Brown v Board and they are still doing that Segragation crap.

I would have though the Feds would have stepped in decades ago.

Looks like the party that founded the Ku Klux Klan is trying to keep the blacks down, and can’t tolerate the bright ones getting a decent education.

If a particular political party gets its power through proposing to 'solve' certain 'problems', whether real or imagined, then it is in the best interests of that party to make damn sure those problems never get 'solved'.

If a particular political party gets its power from 'the poor', then it is in the best interests of that party to make damn sure the number of poor increases.

If a particular political party gets its power from there being a constant friction between the races, then it is in the best interests of that party to make damn sure the that friction is aggravated at all times.

If a particular political party gets its power from fear of 'what might happen', then it is in the best interests of that party to make damn sure the fear is promulgated and multiplied whenever possible.

Now, which particular political party would that be?............................

It’s well known that a black kid is only capable of learning when sitting next to a white kid!

The state with most segregate school systems is not in the South but in North East. New Jersey has the most segregated school systems in the United States.

It is not uncommon to find districts that are 95% white and Asian, and generally these districts are high performing districts in neighborhoods with high real estate values and super high property taxes.

However, these districts can be located next to the worse districts in the country like Newark Central, Camden, Trenton, Atlantic City, Lakewood, etc.

School districts are generally geographically drawn based on the town, wealthy towns have great districts and high property values, and taxes. Poor districts are generally in towns with poor people, low property values, but of course, high taxes (New Jersey pays the highest amount in property taxes then any other state in the nation)

School are locally controlled with school boards, superintendents, principals, teachers, etc. Some districts are so small they don’t even have any schools and send their students to a neighboring town.

Schools in wealthy areas are high performing and do appear on best school districts in the nation list. Medium wealth, middles class districts can be on that list as well and some are good schools. Depending on the town. However, all low income, welfare districts are awful and are generally the worse districts in the nation. Crime is high, drop out rates are high, graduation rates are low, etc. Avoid at all costs. And because this is a liberal state, the highest per pupil districts are generally in welfare low income districts, Asbury Park, one of the worse districts in the nation, spends about 34,000 per year per pupil, more then the average tuition at a nice prep school.

“one side of town, and blacks reside in other areas,”

Probably, and now they can order busing like they did in Boston and DESTROY the good schools .

Desegregation will need to be continuously applied until the aggrieved minorities catch up academically with the privileged majority by miraculously increasing the minority IQ's by 15 points using SJW pixie dust.

If you drive down HWY 1 (as I prefer to do instead of HWY 61 on my way to and from Greenville, MS and my office in Memphis) and drive through Bolivar County/Rosedale, MS-it is “so poor, so black”. Quote stolen from Wolf Blitzer after Hurricane Katrina.

This probably has to do more with demographics of the schools surrounding neighborhoods not any deliberate segregation ordered by law. The thinking now is that children from middle class advantaged homes who attend good schools in safe neighborhoods must be sent into bad neighborhoods with failing schools in order that their advantage somehow osmosis all over children from those areas. Children whose home life and outside influences are rotten to the core.

Remember your children must be sacrificed to the village.

Been down both roads many times. Most of the Delta seems closer to some third world country than the United States. Especially when compared to the most of the rest of the state.
I lived in the Delta as a child and don’t remember anything like it is today.

Here we go again - busing kids from one district to another didn’t solve anything - it caused more problems. Seems like the crazy lady judge wants to cause as much discord as Obama ....

Brown v Board has existed for 60 years and is in no way controversal or problematic.

It is time this town in Mississippi stepped forward to at lest the middle of the 20th century.

“It is time this town in Mississippi stepped forward to at [least] the middle of the 20th century.”

We will see what this is really about — I suggest many people need to take pictures of the schools as they are today, review the test scores today, all of the measurements of learning and education documented as of today and then come back 12 months from now, 24 months from now...If the education of the children has improved, success! If not, yet another liberal failure!
