Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) says he doest anticipate going back to the draft, but nevertheless, he thinks it would be appropriate for young women to register with the Selective Service.
A reporter asked McConnell on Tuesday if he anticipates a separate Senate vote on an amendment requiring women to register for the draft. The amendment is attached to the Senates National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). [ ]
Should women be required to register? the reporter asked.
Im not sure. Required, I suppose. Well see. Whats in the bill? Required? the Senate leader asked.

That is exactly what it means, and if you don't think so, you are missing the point, in my opinion.
Mark my words.
So not true, and no I will not “mark your words”.
Remove the requirement completely. That is what should be done. If war comes and drafting is necessary, women will enlist and they can and should perform non-combat support tasks, much as the women did ferrying planes in WWII throughout CONUS, albeit without military status then.
You don’t know what you are talking about, then.
I give up, of course you won the argument. In your own mind.
Well, it seems to be the only mind in this two person discussion paying any attention in depth to the issue at hand, so I am okay with that.
Keep telling yourself that. I laid out the facts, you laid out supposition and feelings. Facts are hard, feeling are what progressives work from.
Keep telling yourself that. I laid out the facts, you laid out supposition and feelings. Facts are hard, feelings are what progressives work from.
Which is exactly what you are doing, viewing the issue emotionally, which you are quite right, is something LIBERALS do.
You are driven to somehow punish women because feminists and liberals are pushing this agenda, and you are so emotionally driven by it, that you are willing to sacrifice the fighting capability, and ultimately, the lives of our troops in battle.
I’m not driven to anything. you are imposing your bias on to me by implying what I am thinking without any basis in fact. As I said Selective Service registration should either be eliminated for men or be applied to all as proscribed by the “equal protections” afforded by the constitution.
Your argument is “I feel women will be posted in combat positions if they are required to register for the draft” illogical and irrational. No one has been drafted ( male or female) in over 4 decades. Because you “feel” something does not win an argument. Post some facts, then we can have a reasoned discussion. Until that time you are wasting mine.
You simply aren’t paying attention to the issue of women in combat. The issue of the draft and the issue of women in combat are inextricably intertwined and are not separated.
There is NO argument about that, zero. If you don’t understand that key point, you are either ignorant (willfully or otherwise) or naive.
Why do you think women in Ranger school is an issue? Do you think they are sending women to Ranger school to make coffee? You do know about that particular issue, right?
That isn’t “I feel”, that is women in combat. And only a fool thinks that there will be a draft, and that only women who want to go into Ranger school or other combat billet will go. What on earth do you think that is all about? You are paying attention to that, aren’t you?
You are conflating registering with Selective Service with women in combat. You feel that may happen. Now you have resorted twice to what all losers do and that is to use an invective instead of a rational argument. A reasoned discussion I will engage in, but I will not engage with those that sling insults when a conversation does not meet their desired outcome. Typical of those on the losing side to resort to those tactics. Call it a wrap, because I have.
What a wimp. You tell me I am pushing a canard (doubt you even know what that means) then you call me a progressive, and a loser, then wrap yourself in a cloak of fake righteousness and run away because you have no idea what you are talking about.
Call it a wrap, eh? Speaking of losers, the typical “I’m leaving and taking my ball with me” because you don’t have a leg to stand on.
Go on and run. Your contribution to this thread was worthless, so you won’t be missed.
I am completely in agreement that any conflict should be handled by a volunteer force if it can be, but there will be a time when it won’t be adequate (hopefully when I am gone). During an environment short of national mobilization, the volunteer force has proven to be the best approach, and I am a firm believer in it.
I would be cautious in characterizing draftees that way, because history has shown us that there are indeed draftees with less incentive to perform or hold less to things like patriotic fervor, but it is also true that the majority of men who were drafted did their duty and performed just as well as men who enlisted. It was interesting to see the reaction of Marines in WWII when they first encountered USMC draftees, a foreign concept to them, but most of those men did their job and were dependable.
We want to be careful we don’t throw the baby out with the bath water.
