Schoolchildren in Russia will soon be taught a variety of military skills such as maintaining firearms as part of a new drive by the country's defence ministry.

...snip....

It will include things like assembling assault rifles, shooting and parachute jumping, but also theoretical subjects such as military history and tactics, the Gazeta.ru news website reports, quoting defence ministry officia

I trust the Russians as much as Federal US Government forces.
I already know the US government considers me a racist/person of privilege because they know my race.

If the Government's army of queers and trannies can defeat Russia and China's commies, good luck to them.

Normal people will fight and die for their own property, as always.

I suspect it will be done the same way as in the Soviet Union. My experience from the military classes in the 80s is just watching propaganda movies and hearing lectures about how we must report capitalists spies and their servants trying to sabotage communism to the authorities.

Now it is going to be brainwashing about Putin - good, others - bad, report dissenters.

Soviets tried to put women in frontline combat during WWII, it didn’t last.

They were some of the most deadly snipers during the defense of (I think) Stalingrad(Volgagrad). I recall watching a documentary about them several years ago. They, and the winter weather helped beat back the Germans.

Back in the ‘60s, my Dad got together with my shop teacher and they held NRA training in the shop room. Had weapons (sans ammo) available for dry-firing/sighting exercises and nobody blinked. Then they got a bus and took a bunch of us to a firing range for some live firing. Big changes now that a half-eaten Pop-Tart is seen as a scary threat...

Right idea for the wrong reasons. Russia has a very long and bloody history of “we have reserves” military strategies. I pity any of them who looked up how many millions of their great-grandfathers died as the meanest kinds of cannon fodder and wonder if that will be THEIR fate.

That being said, I am absolutely in favor of this because it teaches some VERY useful life skills in addition to being a valuable resource for national defense. As the other poster said, imagine if we had to restart the draft with a nation full of Facebook addicts and lard-bottomed whiners. Now imagine Russia restarts theirs and the vast majority of young men (and maybe women too) can not only point a rifle and RPG the right direction but hit the broad side of a barn with their weapon and perform basic maintenance. Which nation would be ready in such a scenario and which nation would be royally screwed?

The ONLY thing keeping Russia from steamrolling all of Europe at this point is their horrifically dire financial situation (thanks Mr.Reagan!). Their little incursion of Poland was cut short due to just that.

But if they amassed enough forces and pulled a serious tank blitzkrieg like the Nazis I imagine that they would overrun a fair amount of territory before the nations with any real amount of nuclear arms (namely England and France) managed to pull their heads out of their own arses let alone get the birds ready to fly in time for more than a Mexican standoff.

Sure Russia could overrun the Baltic states in 60 hours.

But don’t worry !

Obama and Ben Rhodes have this covered.
