Are You Ready For...Vice President Newt Gingrich?

Really interesting stuff from National Review's Eliana Johnson, whose latest campaign dispatch sheds light on just how close Newt Gingrich has become with the presumptive Republican nominee -- and how hard the former House Speaker is said to be lobbying behind the scenes for a spot on the ticket. Are you ready for Trump/Gingrich 2016, America?

Gingrich has, in effect, launched his own campaign to secure the nomination. “I think Newt is lobbying to be the vice president, and I think their people are paying a lot of attention to him,” says Ed Rollins, a Republican operative and former Gingrich staffer now working for a super PAC supporting Trump’s candidacy.

*snip*

Gingrich has a reputation for insinuating himself into campaigns by firing off dozens of e-mails brimming with ideas that range from brilliant to insane. While it’s a quality that has irritated previous presidential candidates such as John McCain and Mitt Romney, sources say that Trump has come to value the former speaker’s opinions. “They talk every day,” says a source familiar with the relationship, who claims that Gingrich e-mails Trump, campaign chairman Paul Manafort, and campaign manager Corey Lewandowski “countless times a day.”...Gingrich’s influence within Trump World is widespread. Inside Trump’s newly established campaign offices in Washington, D.C., his fingerprints are everywhere. “Right from the minute I joined we were told that Newt will have his hand in every major policy effort,” says one Trump aide. “So one of the things I do when I’m researching or writing anything, in addition to looking at what Trump has said about anything, I look at what Newt has said.”

Whatever Trump accomplishes in eight years is more easily unravelled if he is not followed by like mindedness and the VEEP is the logical next in line after a presidential stint.

White House Chief of Staff and Primary Adviser to the POTUS. Newt has lots of wisdom, valuable experience and the humility of having learned from mistakes.

I’m with you...I think Trump knows what he’s doing...Whoever he picks, he’ll have a reason for picking that person...and it will turn out to be a barn burner...Just like everything else he’s done in this campaign...

He’s a winner....

Newt as VP essentially discredits all attacks on Billy for being a serial rapist.

I think John Bolton would be a superior Secretary of State. Newt would make a great senior advisor.

V.P’s are supposed to help win elections. Nothing else. Not sure if Newt brings a swing state with him or some such. Probably best to go with woman or governor that can help flip the map.

Newt was unfaithful (so was Trump) but who did he rape?

Forgot about Bolton ... I think you're right

For the record, Alan Keyes would be a great SOS, as well.

Newt is more than aim worthy. A man who would NEVER lift his gun and shoot into thin air. Frankly, believe he would be better suited in the Chief of Staff slot rather than VP. A finger on the pulse, sharing Trump’s vision of a great America. I’ve faith that Mr. T will choose his VP and his choice, though not our choice, will be the one best to see his views. Trump has shown US be prepared to step outside the box for a new look at reality.
