Santorum endorses Trump
The Hill ^ | May 24, 2016 | Jesse Byrnes

Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) is throwing his support behind controversial presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

"I'm 100 percent," Santorum said Tuesday during an interview on Fox News's "On The Record," when asked if he was supporting or endorsing Trump. "That's endorse."

Santorum, who backed Marco Rubio after dropping out of the race himself in February, said he spoke with Trump more than a week ago and he said the businessman asked for his support.

The former Senator indicated a top reason for endorsing Trump is the vacant Supreme Court seat. Santorum said he made a couple suggestions for Trump's list of potential nominees .

"The most important issue is preserving the Constitution of this country and a liberal Supreme Court will destroy it," Santorum said.

"I think Americans maybe just want a little unvarnished [candidate]. I can't say that I'm crazy about it," Santorum said in explaining Trump's support throughout the GOP primaries.

Santorum conceded that the 2016 race, in his view, is more about personalities than policy.

"I think the American public has made up their mind about Hillary Clinton. I think Donald Trump still has an opportunity to cast the right lot and win this election," Santorum said.

Santorum is just a good guy. No one I know, who has met him or who has worked with him, has anything but good to say about him.

I miss him there as my senator. He was my first choice this past primary contest.

Well, you're wrong.

Imagine that.

I live in PA. I work in PA. I grew up in PA. My family roots are centuries old in PA. I do give "two sh!ts" about Rick Santorum. I know many people who give "two sh!ts" about Santorum.

I submit your hysteria is either hormonal imbalance or psychological incapacitation. Blanket statements, without basis, are the purview of the dhimmi cabal.

A tax break and (not) getting a tax hike are roughly the same thing.

He might be a good choice for VEEP. The left does viscerally hate him. Maybe he could be a good cop to Trump’s loud mouth.

Thanks for sharing. It's always good to get local perspective.

It's too easy to get the generalized global perspective without background info.

In 2012, Santorum attacked the concept of limited government, and he did not lift a finger to oppose any of Dubya’s big gov’t programs. He claims to be pro-family yet the welfare state, which he supports, has been a disaster for the traditional family. Did he vote for NAFTA? I am glad Santorum is no longer running for President and could care less about whether he endorses or not.

Santorum is a decent man. I applaud him for standing up. Others will denigrate him for doing the right thing. Perhaps they would prefer he not back Trump.

Agreed. One would think that there is only one decent man in the country. There are a million more fit than Obama or the Clinton bitch.

weird election year - usually it’s the vp who is the attack dog while the nominee gets to stay above the fray and act “presidential”...... (i.e. weak)

i wouldn’t be shocked if Trump were to announce tomorrow “decided i don’t need a vp - they’re all underachievers, i’ll fill both positions”

i’d be all in..... lol...

keep kickin arse Trump

He was our district’s congressman before being elected to the U.S. Senate. A genuine WYSIWYG type of guy.

You could do worse than Santorum. I am thinking Pat Buchanan for VP. Heard him on Hannity last week. He sounds better than anyone else we got.

I’m in his (old, now Tim Murphy’s) District. I met Santorum twice. Once in my neighborhood (when he was running for Congress the first time). Bread going door to door. We talked for a few minutes, and I did vote for him. I was very pregnant at the time (and he and Karen were expecting too).

He would be a good (young) Veep, Secretary of State, and possibly even a Supreme Court Justice.

Our country could do ALOT worse.

Trump2016!

Santorum would make a good VP pick. Knows Washington in and out, is 100% prolife and pro family. He’s a devout Catholic who lives the faith.

Trump has not done anything people have expected. Expect the unexpected and be happily surprised as the anti trumpers are or validated as those of us that said.... wait a minute after hearing his announcement. I did a double take and said ok... lets watch a bit. What I have seen.... it is a political Godzilla. One that at the very least espouses OUR values. Implementation??? He does seem like he holds his word as his bond. I have little doubt his VP pick will astound and confuse and make us all giddy with joy.

Santorum was blocked by Newton Gingrich; Trump benefited from the John Kasich candidacy. Tables were reversed.
