Better watch what you put in email.
The Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday approved a bill that would make it easier for the government to read what you're writing online....
The bill is the latest move by the federal government to shore up its powers when it comes to surveilling citizens. The government has been battling Apple and other tech companies for more access to data stored on devices. Law enforcement argues it can't fight crimes unless it has access to information on mobile gadgets. Technology companies and rights groups argue that features like strong encryption, which scrambles data so it can be read only by the intended recipient, are needed to keep people safe and protect privacy.
Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr (R-NC) and Vice Chairman Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) said Tuesday in a joint statement that the 2017 Intelligence Authorization Act makes it easier for the government to keep Americans safe....

I believe that currently if your email is 6 months old or more the feds do not have to have any warrant to read it.
I mean that is true today.

What they want is to archive everything on everyone for the time when they decide they want to take a look at you should you piss someone off. Then they dial up the NSA data center and take a look-see at a treasure trove of personal effects and conversations which you've had for all of time.Bingo! What do you think that huge building complex in Harry Reid's home state does? Exactly what you said. Record everything in searchable format forever. Nothing "really" goes away. It is all recorded. Unlike phone conversation, computer text data is a very small file size. Audio and video is much larger. I've seen events that indicate it is also possible to do that with the RF spectrum. It truly is a "brave new world". /sarcasm

"Sounds like a potential law that would be in violation of an Amendment!" Therein lies the problem...
The All Powerful Government now considers itself above all laws... When the King or any of his dominions makes a decree, well it's, "so let it be written, so let it be done..!!"
This will most likely continue until some of them are hanged for treason....
MHO..... :(

Yep - the worn-out excuse of ‘keeping us safe’.
According to the ladies on NPR, it is the white, working soccer moms who go to the ‘keeping us safe’ meme like bees to honey.
Yet they don’t see the chains being linked up one by one...

What's the best "secure" email?
Somebody asked me this just yesterday. Not that I'm the best to ask, I'm merely the smartest
they know, lol...
So I looked into it. They all seem to have drawbacks. The govt has shut down some of them in the past few years. The oldest is hushmail, but that doesn't mean it's great. Startpage.com has an encrypted email I never knew about and it's my homepage. Proton is said to be great but after reading their feedback page I see a lot of shortcomings.
The list I worked from is here:

Anyone here with actual experience of any secure email service for the pc?

I’ve had some experience with ProtonMail — it’s still rough around the edges, though. I’m optimistic that it will be more ready for prime time after a few more refinements.
