There is an alternative if you are Christian. It’s called Medishare, and while not insurance in the conventional sense, it is affordable and exempts you from Obamacare.

The program I was in ($100,000 lifetime benefit limit) was actually intended as a temporary safety net, so the lifetime limit isn’t as enduring as it sounds. But 100k is plenty for me as I want no extraordinary care.

I pay 1900 a month for COBRA

That is in the ballpark for my employers Cobra HMO family plan. If you want the national plan, it is $2500 per month. It doesn't make any sense to buy these plans unless your in the middle of treatment or your age is such that purchasing private insurance would have a similar cost. A family of 4 with spouses around 40 can buy gold level insurance for around half of the figures above.

If you change your mind, here’s an option. My uncle was a retired state prison guard. He told me, more than once, that if ever came down with a major health problem that would require great expense he was walking down the street to the bank and robbing it. He didn’t want the money, just wanted to get locked up to get the free medical treatment. Fortunately, I guess, his major health problem was swift, went to bed and never got up swift, so he didn’t get to fulfill his plan.

I just refuse to pay. They can send me to jail.

Where they are required to give you medical care!

Yes, I am. I needed something to tide me over until I qualify for Medicare, so I opted for the least expensive option that will cover doctor’s visits but has a high deductible. There are several different options.

Some of the requirements are that you be a Christian, you don’t smoke, and you consume alcohol in moderation. You also pay more if you are overweight, and they offer you help with weight management.

They do not cover pre-existing conditions, either.

It is not insurance, as such, it is Christians sharing health care costs. Hope this helps.

Our Plan for the Wife and I is $1,900 a Month and it’s an HMO. That does include Dental and Vision which is about $100.

In December 2013 we were paying $1,200 a Month.

Can’t wait to see what 2017 will look like.
