Inside the Beltway and along the Washington-to-Boston corridor, #NeverTrump has won the hearts and minds of conservative intellectuals and the high-toned media. The dissentersyes, there are somemake a lot less noise.
But move away from the East Coast and it's a different story. Out there, the conservative intelligentsia isn't aligned against Donald Trumpquite the contrary. Roger L. Simon, the screenwriter, novelist, and former CEO of PJ Media, predicted last August that Trump would win the presidency. Nine months later, in May, he wrote that "it still holds true."
"Like others, I want things to change . . . and Donald seems like the man with the courage and will to do it," Simon writes. "He's unafraid. He's upbeat. He's funny. He despises political correctness (as anybody with a brain does). . . . I can think of no greater antidote to Obama than a Trump presidency."
Simon is only the most enthusiastic of the conservative highbrows not mired in the East who have grappled with the Trump phenomenon. Their views cover a wide range: from mere opposition to #NeverTrump to mildly pro-Trump to recognition of Trump's strengths to disclosing they intend to vote for him.
Dennis Prager, the L.A.-based syndicated talk radio host and columnist, said when the presidential debates started "that if Donald Trump wins the Republican nomination, I will vote for him over Hillary Clinton, or any Democrat for that matter." Last week, he took on #NeverTrump conservatives...

Is this a Fred Barnes olive branch to Trump? Being this is from the Weekly Standard, it seems significant.
It’s a two page article, by the way.
All the pundits have their knickers in a twist
The voters are looking to November
David Horowitz, for one. Out in sunny California.
As opposed to the gifted brain trust with which Obama has surrounded himself for the past 7 years, or the vast collection of policy geniuses what Hillary has managed to put together over the course of her . . . um . . . career.
Did you read it?
Don't be silly. Of course not. This is FreeRepublic.
HOWEVER, I in no way meant to disparage the people that Trump seems to be bringing to his circle. I'm actually very pleased with the ones I've seen so far.
And I assumed that the article was serious and not sarcastic, so I wasn't disparaging Fred Barnes, either.
It's just that the title of the article got me thinking about how the left in general and the MSM in particular are always treating anyone who is not a raging one-world leftist as some type of idiot.
Which irritates me. So I went off on a rant.
“full-throated conservatism”
I still don’t get this “full-throated conservatism” thing. What positions is Trump espousing that are essential for our country’s survival but are diametrically opposite of “full-throated conservatism”? (That’s a rhetorical question btw; no one need attempt to answer it unless they somehow feel compelled to.)

I’m curious as to your thoughts.
Will or has the Trump nomination completely removed Christianity from the GOP/GOPe or even conservatism when it comes to public discourse?
If so?
Is it a good thing?
If not?
Is that a good thing?
Just asking.
I certainly HOPE Christianity and all other religions stop being cynical fodder for election season. Campaigning in churches or lording your very human morality over your very human opponent’s morality cheapens religion and distracts from the political issues.
In short, and to coin a phrase, maybe separation of church and state is a good idea.

But, but....
Jenny, Jenny, who can I turn to?
What an odd question. The current Pope is a Communist, setting a large portion of the American Catholics into desperation. Some of use have reduced giving money to the church due to this occupier of St. Peters Chair
A very large portion of "Christians" either vote for the Commie Dems or do not vote at all
NO. I don't want Trump taking advice from these people. If any of us wanted 'a Jeb'... who would listen to these puff-up out-of-touch elites we would have voted for Jeb.
Read to the end to get the self-important smarm from Medved.
The sad thing is that you probably believe that there is real Christian influence in the party now when in fact it is only lip service. Do you remember when GW was first elected he had both Houses and not one Social Conservative issue was ever brought forward in legislation.
What does Christianity have to do with being raped and murdered by a Mexican?
Have you decided Trump is not a Christian? Or just that his nomination means the Christian definition of right and wrong can no longer be discussed because he is the nominee.
There's a difference between Christian discourse (which includes the right to disagree, by the way) and a campaign built around the idea that a person should be supported just because he claims to be a Christian.
Whether Trump (or Cruz) is a Christian or not is not my call. And the answer to that does not open or close the door to Christian discourse.
People who support Trump are not turning their back on Christianity. To imply that we are is quite an insult.
What positions is Trump espousing that are essential for our countrys survival but are diametrically opposite of full-throated conservatism?
