It is by Grace I am saved....
...but I am not without sin

As Ruth Bell Graham (a Presbyterian) married to Billy Graham, a Baptist had them write on her tombstone

“End of Construction....Thank-you for Your Patience”

Sanctification continues all our days .......till we get to Heaven.....

This story confuses me. Trump said he was a Cristian, so how is it he is coming to believe in a higher power? I think Carson hasn’t forgiven Trump for calling him a pedophile and he’s getting back at Trump by spreading stories to make us question him. The whole leaked VP list that ended up not being accurate, this, etc.

Can you support Trump without being sacrilegious?

Reminds me of II Thessalonians 11, the part about God “sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie . . “

So is Trump the one spreading the manure? Or is he the actual manure? I’ve never been great at remembering the parables.

We can say both. In the grand scheme of things, the manure and the person spreading the plant-enriching manure are one and the same.

Sounds like you imply I'm being sacrilegious.  Sorry, I certainly didn't mean to be.  I was trying to say that "prayer" can be thought of in two senses: wishing, asking, and venerating in words/thoughts -- and also taking action to make the world better or to reduce suffering.

That photoshop was distinctly messianic and abhorrent.

Trump is no messiah. He’s likely more of a pied piper. No matter what he says, his supporters follow. If you want to go to scripture, look up “blind guides.”

I don’t know what he would do as President, and neither do you. Hillary would be, using Trump’s favorite word, a “disaster.” Trump, held accountable, might be a competent President, but he’s no spiritual leader or example.

Go back and read through this thread and watch the adoration of a clay-footed man. It’s downright alarming.

And we laughed at the Obamite fervor and Greek columns in 2008.

No, not in any way. Just suggesting there is ‘something’ uncommon, uncanny, unusual, that seems to be taking place behind the scenes. Persons who have that ‘third eye’ and are now aware they can see with it. Call this whatever, the awakening of a new sense of perception. Prayer, praying is very personal. Where, when, how often, how intense, silently or loudly varies individually. When prayers are answered one wants to inform all who will listen. Prayers at times can be answered in ways we fail to see and though we are unaware, prayers have indeed been answered when the result is at last known. It is as though we are being taught to think beyond the logical, the common, and follow the process to view the end result. The road to the destination is of as much value/reward as the destination itself. We are but children who are constantly being taught.

Sorry the photoshop upset you, Jedidah. I removed it.

You're right. Following Trump can appear to be a sort of cult worship.

Sure, any person can disappoint us. But if you look at Trump's family and his record of achievement in the last 40 years which we can see, he's made his mistakes, but I think he looks very solid.

The fact that Evangelical Christians voted for Trump more than any other candidate is a good indicator.

But I agree that you can never be 100% sure. Trust but verify.

Hey V K.   Very good analysis -- and I hear you that when we talk about prayers and the future, we have moved somewhat beyond the rational and into another mode of perception.

One guy who thought a lot about thinking was Emerson, trained as a Protestant minister, went to divinity schook and ultimately spent most of his life lecturing and being a poetic philosopher.

Here's a passage that I think is related to our topic:

The one prudence in life is concentration; the one evil is dissipation: and it makes no difference whether our dissipations are coarse or fine; property and its cares, friends, and a social habit, or politics, or music, or feasting.

Everything is good which takes away one plaything and delusion more, and drives us home to add one stroke of faithful work.   Friends, books, pictures, lower duties, talents, flatteries, hopes, -- all are distractions which cause oscillations in our giddy balloon, and make a good poise and a straight course impossible.

You must elect your work; you shall take what your brain can, and drop all the rest.   Only so, can that amount of vital force accumulate, which can make the step from knowing to doing.   No matter how much faculty of idle seeing a man has, the step from knowing to doing is rarely taken.

Concentration is the secret of strength in politics, in war, in trade, in short, in all management of human affairs.

One of the high anecdotes of the world is the reply of Newton to the inquiry, "how he had been able to achieve his discoveries?" -- "By always intending my mind."

Power from The Conduct of Life (1860, rev. 1876)

Emerson was a very deep thinker, a man of many beliefs. Not only a poet, but a man of spiritual interest as well. Your road to enlightenment may have been his. My road was found in the form of The Urantia.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Urantia_Book/
This was read about 30 years ago due to an interest in conflicts of Religion and spiritual abnormalities. Those who believed in second sight were felt to be no followers of Christ, but rather the devil. If God grants all things, why were these gifts not gifts from God? Why would He give the gift if it was supposed to be evil? We were given minds, and thought process...we should be free to allow these gifts to grow and in the process find our own paths to see what might be found. To grow, it’s always best to have an open mind as this is the only way it would be able to expand.

I appreciate your gracious reply and that you removed the picture.

I will vote for Trump, because Hillary as President is unthinkable. I do not trust him, and I question both his sincerity and his commitment to constitutional and conservative principles. Indeed, I don’t really know what his principles are, other than making money and bragging on himself. He talks a good game, but his background does not confirm his rhetoric. Perhaps he can rise to the occasion if he wins, but idolizing him, as some here on FR do, is wrong. I fear that they will be sorely disappointed.

Still, he’s the best we’ve got, and I’m a realist.
