Murray praises Trump with faint damns: “what you see is what you get”.
"We have deep depth" - Yogi Berra
I don’t think he has a low IQ. I never said that. I said Charles Murray certainly seems to think that.
I think Trump is a genius, myself.
It wasn’t too genius of me to misread your post at 01:50 AM. FReegards.
No problem.
Missy -I usually agree with you on issues. Not all the time, and even if I disagree, I feel you usually make your point with style.
I’m not sure Murray has that view of people who don’t have high IQs. Having read the Bell Curve and a few other things he’s written (the Bell Curve is very long and tedious in parts) I’ve never had the impression that he has real negative opinions about less able people.
He does believe in our technological world the less able people will have an increasingly hard time. Plus the smarties will marry smarties and the ends of the distribution will get further and further apart.
He’s right about the trend. The productive, smart guy isn’t going to run off with a chorus girl. He’s likely to marry a gal he meets in medical school or law school. Their kids will likely be smart. Similarly, the high school drop out is not going to be marrying a Phi Beta Kappa. Less able people will marry those of similar ability and their children will be less able. The tails of the bell curve move further away from each other.
I’ve been impressed that Murray had the courage to write about a topic that is a third rail in academia. Much of what the media said about the book was distorted or outright lies. Yes, he said there were IQ differences between blacks, whites and Asians and he predicted that the differences might become more pronounced over time. Reasonable prediction given that high IQ people tend to date and marry those of similar intelligence. A lot of people didn’t want him to mention IQ differences and how they might get worse. I guess we’re supposed to pretend they don’t exist.
I’m not at all happy that he wrote such a negative article about Trump given his previous work. hmm...maybe he is a snob or maybe he got tired of being excluded from liberal cocktail parties.
Good post, ladyjane. Thanks for taking the time to answer me.
All I can add is that with smart men refusing to marry chorus girls and secretaries, the gene pool is going to get uglier and uglier if smarter and smarter. And that’s a loss to people like me who prefer beauty over brains, lol.
For later.
