Trump is holding the “reporters” accountable for their lies, distortions and bias.

Not at all. He said the press should be ashamed for lying, not investigating. Trump is not against an investigating press; he is against a lying press, like most people.
Well! The press are signaling long and loud that they will biased beyond all belief.
For this they want hosannas for upholding the First Amendment?
The nonprofit world moves slowly. Anyone in it knows that the time from collecting to vetting recipients for and disseminating millions of dollars very regularly takes more than a few months time—let alone when the one(s) doing the collecting, vetting and disseminating are in the midst of a presidential campaign. Were it a year from now and either President or non-president Trump still shy of having doled out the promised funds, an investigation could have been in order.
But all the insinuations and slanted reporting at this point was clearly unfounded and politically motivated.
Finally, someone running for Republican office not afraid to call the press out on its gross bias masking as objectivity.

What does Thomas Burr have against telling the truth? The First Amendment guarantees freedom of the press. Inherent in that freedom is an obligation to be truthful in its reporting; otherwise, it is propaganda. That is NOT freedom of the press and is not protected.

Where was this guy before yesterday? Suddenly he appears on the scene to make this very high flown defense of the media on First Amendment grounds, but the timing makes you think he’s really just miffed that Trump called out his buddies in that press conference yesterday. He sort of pads it with the stuff about blocked access and the libel law but really he’s feeling stung by that presser.
And has this guy has said one word about Hillary not holding a single press conference this year? What kind of access is that? Would he rather have an available but pugnacious Trump or a sequestered Hillary?

Free speech works BOTH ways. Trump was merely expressing his right to free speech at a corrupt media.
Trump is not upset about the press investigating his fundraising, but he is upset about the press making up out of whole cloth, fabricated stories.
The press hasn’t known what the words “investigative journalism” mean in many years.
