Republican elites retreat to a Trump-safe space: Mitt Romney's place
CNN ^ | 6/8/2016 | Theodore Schleifer

(CNN)One year ago the question hovering over Park City, Utah, was which presidential candidate could capture the hearts of Mitt Romney's friends.

Less than a week later, Donald Trump said he was running for president and made them his enemy. And he beat them.

Now, with Trump as the GOP nominee, those same Republican fundraisers, business titans and longtime friends of Romney are back to huddle far from Trump Tower. Attendees caution that Romney's annual summit -- The Experts and Enthusiasts, or E2, retreat -- is not an exclusive conclave for the #NeverTrump movement. Yet it is the closest thing to a safe space for conservatives who agree that Trump is not a Republican in the mold of their 2012 Republican nominee, who remains revered by associates.

Romney, who has criticized Trump at every turn, will brief his allies in a highly-anticipated, even if brief, set of remarks Thursday evening.

Two Republicans who have been the most uneasy with Trump's ascension: House Speaker Paul Ryan, who just endorsed Trump last week, and Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse, who has refused to, will speak, their offices confirmed.

Just Willard’s way of keeping himself at the head of the king-makers for a future run.

He waits in the wings for a coronation.

As a future god, the Presidency might be a bit low, but certainly he is worthy to ascend to this stepping stone.

Bound and determined to destroy this once-great nation, so that their 'Rat masters won't have to soil their own dainty little paws doing so.

I actually despise and detest these smarmy, duplicitous traitors MORE than I do even the most smugly unendurable liberal... and I never, ever thought I'd one day be able to say that.

If I could vote in Wisconsin, I’d vote against Ryan, even if the choice was another democrat. What, you say? Ryan is a Republican? Well, then, I’d vote for the democrat.

Romney is a loser who lost to a very weak opponent.

It’s all about keeping the people pipeline operating.
They have been able to nominate an amnesty candidate in every election since the last amnesty.
They have been successful in blocking every effort by the citizens to stop the illegal alien inundation.
It’s all about the open borders/amnesty agenda.
They will stop at nothing to ensure the citizens cannot keep the rule of law or our country.

We have an opportunity to Cantorize Ryan in a primary Aug. 9.
His opponent is Paul Nehlen.

".........Yet it is the closest thing to a safe space for conservatives who agree that Trump is not a Republican in the mold of their 2012 Republican nominee, who remains revered by associates."

There they go again. They are not "conservatives". The establishment has redefined the meaning of the term "conservative". The establishment GOP has taken the term "conservative" to mean whatever they want us to believe at any given time they decide they need to be whatever "conservative" can assist them in being.

This means true conservatives such as we at FR are now to be classified as EXTREMISTS. They have removed us from their base, and joined the Democrats in their quest for the New World Order.

Hello my EXTREMIST FRiends. We don't have a Political party anymore whether we want it, or not.

I am speechless too.
I just cannot understand these NeverTrump Republicans.

They say they can weather the storm of 4 years of Hillary? Why can’t they endure 4 years of Trump?

It’s not rational. smh
