'Braveheart' screenwriter Randall Wallace says he is writing a follow-up to the Biblical blockbuster that will focus on the resurrection of Jesus.
Mel Gibson and writer Randall Wallace are working on a sequel to The Passion of the Christ that will tell the story of the resurrection of Jesus, Wallace tells The Hollywood Reporter.
....Rumors swirled anew last month when Gibson was a surprise guest at Liberty University's graduation ceremony to do an advance screening of Hacksaw Ridge and was asked about a Passion follow-up. He expressed interest in making a sequel but was not specific about his involvement. Wallace says demand in the Christian community influenced he and Gibson's willingness to do another film.
"The evangelical community considers The Passion the biggest movie ever out of Hollywood, and they kept telling us that they think a sequel will be even bigger," Wallace says.
No studio or financial backing has been lined up for the project, which is still in the early script stage. But Wallace indicates there are several financiers interested in investing. "It's too early to talk money," he adds. "This is such a huge and sacred subject."

The true stories of the apostles are amazing
Looked up Mel’s new film Hacksaw Ridge and it looks to be good. It’s about Desmond T. Doss, who was the first Conscientious Objector (served as a Medic) to be awarded the Medal of Honor on Okinawa.
that will get a rise out of people
Passion was great, but I like the ending as is. No sequel needed.
The way things are going “The Passion of Mohamed” might be in the works./s
I LOVE POC. Watch it every year at Easter and never fails to make me well up with tears. I hope the sequel is just as poweful.
I was told that much of the details of The Passion of Christ were based on the writings of Anne Catherine emmerich who claimed to have had had visions of Christs life, passion and Resurrection, so I read her book. If Gibson’s new movie on the resurrection follows in suit Kama it should be another powerful Blockbuster
Well, I for one am always amazed at the many people who are not even aware of what other events happened at the time of His rising....
for example, Matt 27:52-53
And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,
53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
Could this be talking about Joseph who asked that his bones be carried out of Egypt and burried in the promised land?
A sequel to the Passion of the Christ?
I would definitely go see it.
If it’s as good as the Passion it’ll be a blockbuster. Before Mel, every Biblical epic always would go maybe 95 percent never ever going over the top and make it factual based on the Bible.
Did you know that Moses and his people carried the bones of Joseph around for forty years?
It would be pretty amazing if Joseph was one of those that came up out of the grave with Jesus and went into the city to appear to many.
You cannot say that it wasn’t possible. We are not told who these people were.
Not saying Gibson should make a movie out of this incident, just saying that I am very interested in a movie that leaves off from the where the Passion ended.
..... My brother is a pretty good friend of his and tells me Gibson has a project that he has been chomping at the bit to produce but Hollywood money keeps balking at ..... Its a Historically accurate and powerful account surrounding the life and times of Judas Maccabeas.
..... Most people don't know that Gibson is passionately driven by Jewish and Christian History and wishes for the world to see the events that framed these two religions using historical documents and accounts as the main foundation to frame the scripts.
.... Yup ... and people seeing this would be amazed at those events. I maintain that we do not need all of these silly fictional stories that have nothing to do with reality when the scriptures hold many amazing events that people just gloss over or have never heard!
..... Such as that which you are referring to .... the amount of powerful Life Force that Jesus the Messiah had dwelling within his physical body .... that when he his flesh died ...... there was such a massive powerful release of that force ... that even the dead surrounding the area regenerated and rose from the graves.
.... Yup .... Kinda powerful stuff ... and not fiction.
And seeing Jesus eat fish and than walk through a wall.
Quite amazing.
And how He first off went to Peter, knowing that Peter might have been considering offing himself for what he had done to Jesus, but He chassed him down to let him know it was okay.
That always got me.
... Very powerful stuff indeed!
I always thought this an odd passage.
Yes, but the messenger here is somewhat problematic.
