Top conservatives meet at secret dinner to discuss Cruz's future
The Hill ^ | 6/15/2016 | Jonathan Swan

Posted on 06/15/2016 3:42:55 PM PDT by lodi90

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) attended a confidential dinner with more than 20 top conservatives on Tuesday night to plan his comeback as a movement leader in the mold of Ronald Reagan.

The dinner was at the Virginia home of conservative activist Brent Bozell, and the agenda was to plot Cruz’s future and the future of the conservative movement. The undertone of the dinner was about how to position Cruz for a future tilt at the presidency and to spearhead the conservative movement from his seat in the Senate, those in attendance said.

Dining with Cruz and his chief of staff, Paul Teller, were some of the most powerful figures in the conservative movement.

The spectrum of economic, national security and social conservatives seated at the table included Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint, Club for Growth President David McIntosh, direct-mail guru Richard Viguerie, National Rifle Association board member and former Cincinnati Mayor Ken Blackwell, and Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser, sources confirmed.

According to those in attendance, the leaders discussed how they could work more effectively together and how to harness their vast financial and human networks in the service of conservative principles and Cruz's career.

Combined, those at the table have access to hundreds of millions of dollars and some of the largest ground armies on the right.

There was no specific discussion of electoral politics or whether Cruz will support presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump this cycle.

Many of the leaders at the dinner want Cruz to run for president again, and they are viewing Cruz’s unsuccessful 2016 run as similar to Reagan’s failed attempt in 1976 to unseat the incumbent Republican president, Gerald Ford.

‘Throw in a few photos of him leading his family in prayer before a debate and him holding up a Bible, and a lot of Christians fall for it hook, line, & sinker.’

Cruz/his campaign was hawking a photoshop poster, to raise cash, of Cruz, sans clothes, covered with tattoos. It was called ‘the prison look,’ and included a cigarette dangling from Cruz’ lips. I mentioned that this creepy poster didn’t fit well with Cruz’ projected evangelical image. I took such a beat down for that.

Nowadays Cruz’ supporters like to complain about the rudeness of Trump supporters. It wasn’t that long ago that a body couldn’t even slightly criticize a skin-crawly photoshop without getting their head handed to them on a platter.

” My worst nightmare? Trump is going to be talked into changing his gun stance regarding no-fly list by Ryan & McConnell. So after Trump gives an inch and the Dems give him kudos, the Dems will take a mile and backstab him with new terms they add at the last minute. THEN the GOPe could backstab Trump, pointing to him and declaring loudly, “Hey Trump supporters! Look what he did to you!” and get Trump supporters all in a huff for giving in on 2nd Amendment.”

Trump has no say in any proposed law today, he is a candidate, not an office holder. He only has an opinion, NOT a vote.

Too bad Cruz didn’t act like a conservative of any kind during the election with his sleazy campaign tactics.

Exactly - why do these elites need to be courted?

Either they want jobs brought back, illegals deported, Obamacare repealed, and Muslims vetted properly - or they don’t.

I remember that poster. I think some anti-Cruz dem made it as a slam against Cruz. Then Cruz said he liked it and even promoted it.

I can’t believe people see him as a potential judge. He has shown such poor judgement! People need to snap out of it and see Cruz as the Globalist shill he is. He has lied to us from the beginning. #NeverCruz

I wouldn’t put my money on a guy who will have a tough time getting re-elected in Texas IF a good candidate runs against him. Be it repub or dem.

Yes, i know, but i assumed everyone would know that i know.

He DOES have a say over the GOP platform that will be adopted at the convention, which is what i had in mind.

Cruz/his campaign was hawking a photoshop poster, to raise cash, of Cruz, sans clothes, covered with tattoos.

His online store was selling it, but it didn't originate from the campaign. I'd be surprised if Ted gave his approval in advance.

Cruz is hoping for a Trump loss so he can run in 2020.

Ted Cruz isn't on a short clock. If he has to wait until 2024, he'd only be 54 which is a young man by Presidential standards. If Cruz was elected in 2024 and served two terms, he'd still be almost 8 years younger than Trump when he began his first term.

Actually, he doesn’t. Go to GOP.com, Trump is not mentioned anywhere.

“Combined, those at the table have access to hundreds of millions of dollars and some of the largest ground armies on the right.”

These are the people we need to make sure never achieve the power they’ve had over the past 40 to 50 years! They have treated America as their private preserve, and we must make sure that they never get a toehold here again. As for Cruz being
“remade in the mold of Ronald Reagan,” yeah right!

I’m not buying what this article is selling. I suspect it was more along the lines of pulling a stunt @ the Convention to deny Trump the nomination.

There is a flyer online calling for “people” to riot @ both rallies so that Obama can declare Martial Law and cancel the election.

You need to seek professional “help!” How any sentient being can still have a scintilla of “support” for this cretin is beyond me!

The artist who made the photoshop actually did intend it as a compliment. The Cruz campaign ordered 1,200 of the posters to sell for campaign cash.
