U.S. forces are now simultaneously striking the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria from the Mediterranean Sea and the Arabian Gulf for the first time, the Navy announced Thursday. U.S. Marine Corps AV-8B Harriers embarked on the amphibious assault ship USS Boxer began striking ISIS from the Arabian Gulf on Thursday, joining U.S. aircraft striking ISIS from the carrier USS Harry S. Truman in the Mediterranean Sea. "Today, U.S. naval forces are striking ISIL simultaneously from both the Mediterranean and the Arabian Gulf," said Vice Adm. Kevin Donegan, commander of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, using another acronym for ISIS. "These missions from the flight decks of USS Boxer, like those ...

Hopefully they got enough spare parts to keep them in the air 'til the job is done.

Harriers on a Marine transport ship. Isn’t that kind of unusual?

50 dead homosexuals in Orlando, and Obama will finally go through the motions as if he wanted to defeat the terrorists responsible? I wonder if this slightly bigger token effort will last a whole week.

Is it the same “comes back with ordinance 80% of the time” kind of strikes? Sending Harriers is throwing big, high tech bucks against cavemen. Stupid bang for your buck.

Harriers are flown by Marine pilots.

Harriers are very effective as jump-jets, i.e. landing and taking off from in-theater places (roads, desert, etc).

They can be placed right near an operation and up into the air in minutes rather than having our ground forces/ally forces having to wait for long-distance craft to arrive (esp. true in Afghanistan).

They also carry some serious ordnance from bombs to rockets and machine guns. Sort of a cousin to the A-10s.

They work, cost less, and are there.

Just long enough for 4 sigma of the population (dolts) to be unable to link the two events.

About a week, like you said.

Harriers on a Marine transport ship

They are on 'assault' ships. While they do transport Marines, they are designed for support of Marines in an assault role.

It is standard for Marines to bring their own Harrier jets and Osprey helicopters with them.

They deploy as a complete Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF), including organic air, flown by Marine pilots.

In the Gulf, they have a Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), which is the smaller of the standard MAGTFs - a ground force of about 1,000 fighters, with all their associated combat elements.

In my opinion, they are there mostly as a contingency - e.g. to bail out small Special Forces elements, if they get pinned down by larger forces, or evacuating non-combatants.

At this time, there is a high pace of combat operations against ISIS, in both Iraq (especially Fallujah) and Syria (Manbij). At the same time, the carriers that are conducting most of the air strikes are handing over the mission as the USS Truman is heading home. Both of the carriers are in the Med now, so the Marines are a lot closer to Southern Iraq missions like Fallujah.

And you know that they are just chomping at the bit to get some.

Wake me when the B52’s are flying.

Since it seems American Collateral damage is alright with Obama, we should cause some of our own.

Guess it took an ‘ISIL’ sympathizer killing a lot of gay people for King Zero to step up the action against them.

I do like the subtle jab at Iran by calling it the Arabian Gulf instead of the Persian Gulf

Yep, used to work for the Marine Corps Reserve.

Saw more than a couple dudes that were Harrier pilots in the files. Way back.

This is all due to one man...Donald Trump.

He is calling the tune, and the globalist and lefties are starting to adjust the dance because Trump has declared that the emperor has no clothes, and even some who pay scant attention to politics are starting to notice.

This is fig leaf, but it’s only been put there because of Trump.

It’s like he’s in charge already.
