During a private meeting on Wednesday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi rejected the “assault weapons” ban being pushed my Democrat colleagues and Fox News’ Gretchen Carlson.
Pelosi said Democrats should focus on fights that are actually winnable, and she does not see an AR-15 ban as one of those fights.
According to Politico, Rep. David Cicilline (D-R.I.) put forward the “assault weapons” ban, and Pelosi shut it down. She said, “It’s not that we’re not strong enough to make the fight. It’s just that we want to win the fight.”
Breitbart News reported that Gretchen Carlson took time on air Tuesday to push for a ban on AR-15s. She said they are not needed “to hunt or kill deer” and suggested they only serve to enable terrorists to carry out their attacks with greater efficiency. She quoted a December 2015 poll showing majority support for an “assault weapons” ban and said, “I’m with the majority today, taking a stand.”
Pelosi is saying such a ban is not going to happen–not now anyway.
But this does not mean Pelosi and the Democrats are done pursuing gun control. On the contrary, she is being pragmatic and seeking controls both winnable and insidious.
Gun controllers, like Sandy Hook Promise’s Mark Barden, agree with this approach. Barden said, “We work hard to try to stay out of the polarizing divisiveness that comes with this debate. We’ve identified the lack of engagement as really the No. 1 issue that is keeping this movement from moving forward. By steering around that, we feel like we can bring more people and more voices.”
On July 17, country music singer Tim McGraw held a gun control fundraiser consisting of a concert, with all proceeds going to Sandy Hook Promise.

When they speak of an “assault weapon ban”, are they just talking about automatic weapons, or all “assault weapons”, including the popular AR15 semi-automatic?

So while all of FNC is demanding so-called “assault” weapons ban, Pelosi knows its a losing, unwinnable proposition (and pointless even if achieved) and knows its better politics to go for something that SOUNDS more reasonable, like secretly banning firearms purchases by people secretly placed on Obama’s secret Stasi no-fly list.

Both. Military select-fire assault rifles and civilian semi-auto lookalikes; that includes the AR-15. Don't believe anything the libs say. When they claim they're not "after" any particular gun, they're lying.
Ultimately, they want all firearms banned.

The liberals lose on guns always. This incident has now put a serious number of their voters towards pro-gun candidates. The level of mistrust is high.
Anyone who claims Fux is conservative is gonna get a punch from me.

I have to agree with you on this.
It’s quite telling how different George Bush’s actions were pre-2006 (mixed opinions) and post-2006 (inarguably awful); this is because of how he was cowed into submission by her. She is also the primary cause of the 2008 crash, and I believe she is likely the chief architect of many of Soetoro’s malicious plans.

In my opinion the 2nd will never be used and the government knows it.
Somewhere, floating around the internet, is a great essay about the true parsing of the 2nd Amendment and how “well regulated” means that the citizenry should be able to regulate (overwhelm) the standing army (militia) to avoid the government from staging a coup and trashing the rest of our rights.
Essentially, we have more guns and people that the Army and thus can keep the Army from turning on us.
