Thousands of heat deaths predicted as New York City heats up, scientists say By Sebastien Malo
NEW YORK (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - More than 3,000 New Yorkers could die each year from intense heat due to climate change beginning about 60 years from now, researchers said on Thursday.
The number of hot days is expected to triple by the year 2080 and beyond, causing death by heat exhaustion, dehydration or heart and respiratory conditions, said the main author of a study published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives.
With so many hot days, when the temperature is at or above 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 Celsius), an estimated 3,331 people in New York City could die each year, the study found.
Elisaveta Petkova, the lead author, made a comparison to a heat wave in Europe in 2003 that claimed the lives of tens of thousands of people.
"If New York happens to experience something like this, which is more likely due to climate change, (with) more extreme heat events, the consequences can be devastating," she said.

Well, yeah, they don’t have any soft drinks over 18 oz, after all. They’re becoming desiccated.
Perhaps the imports are. hehehehehe
In twenty-five years, we’ll all have a Mr. Fusion.
Of course, we were going to get Mr. Fusion in twenty-five years back in 1985.
Let me get this straight:
Taking for granted the global warming nonsense it true...NYC will become as hot as Florida.
And New Yorkers will die!!!
People from NY retire and move to Florida...and don’t die from the heat. I think they’ll be fine.
Then that’s where we need to send refugees from hot countries.
The global average temp drifts up and down over the centuries and nobody actually experiences this average. It can only be estimated by having multiple measurements around the globe and then guesstimating for variables you can't control like the fact you don't have complete coverage, and the coverage you have could be skewed. Temps that are actually experienced by people and animals and plants are glaciers and creek beds and such are all local.
The same geniuses that said all the penguins were dying from heat stroke and all the ice had melted in Antarctica and this morning I see the “heroic” actions necessary to save two people in need of medical care in Antarctica .... -70 degree temperatures with wind chills of -115 degrees .... a different Antarctica I guess.
One can hope those in black burkas and bearded savages are the first to go.
Don’t forget the collateral damage from pissed-off hotheads.
If I survive.
So what's wrong with that?
If air conditioning was increased that would accelerate the
Global Warming according to the wise environmentalist sages.
So why bother about 3000 people?
NYC lost that amount on 9/11 and the city is still there. Yawn.
Maybe they should consider moving north.
You mean excessive heat can be deadly? Wow. Well dog my cats! I just love a comin’ to Free Republic to know what’s a going on in this big wide world. Sure beats wastin’ time on all that fancy book learning.

How to Survive a Sweltering NYC Summer Without Air Conditioning

For Stephen Lee, a 30-year-old city employee, living without an air conditioner is something he became accustomed to growing up in San Francisco and he decided to keep the habit when he moved to New York City three years ago. He estimated that he saves about $50 a month by going air conditioner-free.
In the 50’s/60’s we did not have AC in NYC and got by just fine. I do summer in Houston TX without AC, I sweat a bit so I drink lots of frozen H20. With a good Scotch whiskey of course.
I have noticed a fair number of the pseudoscientists putting out this drivel are eastern european but moved here.
