He rose to power by fraud, upon the death of Khomeni.
He was the personal secretary, and came out of the room after the former dictator died, with a document naming him as successor - big surprise to everyone, and different from anything that Khomeni had ever said while alive.
I wonder if we will have palace intrique to see who the next despot will be.

I’m not finding anything besides Debka, so who knows?
A couple of comments on Twitter and Facebook refer vaguely to stuff like,
“According reports appearing in social media in the Gulf region Saturday evening, Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khameini has died.”
But I don’t see anything credible yet......
