The aftershocks of Thursday's referendum on British membership in the European Union continued to reverberate Saturday, as more than 2 million people signed an online petition calling for a second vote and one lawmaker said Parliament should overturn the result.

The intellectual superior being in the Parliment and on Fleet Street should not listen to the simple people who cannot possibly understand the real issues at play. We understand what is best for the peasants and they should have no say in their fate. Ignore the vote and demand that they do exactly as we tell them to do. My town does this all the time with property tax increases. They just schedule new referendum elections after a proposed tax increase is defeated. Next week we're having our third such event. They'll keep it going until they finally win. And then it's carved in stone and cannot possibly ever be undone because -- ya know -- "the people have spoken".
If the elected representatives of a people refuse the will of that people, then there is no point in those elected representatives existing.
Sounds like Bush/Gore in Florida. What has been forgotten is the tens of thousands of military absentee votes that are normally ONLY used in cases of close election results were misplaced/lost/never counted nor ever seen again and which the media outcry was nil.
