I use to be a Bookseller at Barnes & Noble back in the 90's. They had a dress code. My manager (a very nice lady) hired me on the spot because I showed up for my interview wearing my good Brooks Brothers suit.

She's long since gone unfortunately and the Booksellers look like they just walked in from a homeless camp.

One other thing. No one was allowed any facial piercings ;-)

I think the facial piercing are now a requirement. LOL! Or some 3” gauges in your ear. WTH? I’d be afraid to get those loops caught in the covers or something.

Back in the 1980s and 1990s I showed up for every single job application or interview wearing a suit coat, tie and nice pants.

Dish washer, bus boy, gas station attendant - all of them. That’s just how I was raised. I never thought it unusual but more than a few managers did.

This upcoming generation is soft in body and mind. Its amazing.
