As annoying as this is, it does not bode well for Clinton that Democrats would favor a third Obama term over a Clinton presidency. From the Democratic perspective she has none of his pluses and no plusses of her own other than a vagina.

She won’t fare well in the real rough and tumble of a campaign as she hasn’t had to fight yet. The press has given her a walk or a participation trophy every time she has “campaigned.” But in the real world she has to fend off Trump. That won’t be easy.

It need not be any more difficult than what she's put up with so far. The press can continue to cover for her, and as long as the polls make the race "interesting" (let the lead flip back and forth), the public will be sufficiently bamboozled.

This "real world" thing is very difficult to get a handle on. It is emphatically not the thing the press or politicians deal with.

There’s a parallel to how things were 16 years ago. Most I guess Gore had a lock on environmentalists and people he knew at Harvard, like Hillary has older feminists and Wellesley women, but most Democrats would rather have seen a third Bill Clinton term than an Al Gore presidency. Hillary and Al definitely have people problems, but a lot of it just has to do with Democrat voters wanting to stick with the devil they know.
