Buchanan: Trump Picking Gingrich or Christie as VP Against Clinton-Warren Would Say to Voters ‘Let’s Get It On’
Saturday on CNN’s “Smerconish,” conservative commentator Pat Buchanan offered his thoughts on presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s potential vice-presidential picks and the upcoming Republican National Convention in Cleveland in two weeks.
Host Michael Smerconish noted the past two GOP presidents and the past GOP presidential nominees won’t be attending the convention, to which Buchanan explained that Trump’s campaign was an insurrection and that the insurrection was the political establishment of the Republican Party, which included former Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and former Gov. Mitt Romney (R-MA)...

I’m not sure Gingrich will help. I don’t think Trump needs someone like him to swing those to the right of Romney or Ryan. I think he gets them anyway. I don’t think Gingrich helps move more GOP voters to the polls either, but he runs the risk of energizing the left because he is so hated by them.
On the plus side, Gingrich may help lock up GA, and Gingrich would also help Trump communicate with Congress since Newt knows the system and knows legislation and how to get bills passed. Whether he needs Newt for that, at the very least it sends the perception that Trump wants to work to get things done in Congress and undercuts any argument that Trump wouldn’t be able to work with Congress.
Trump doesn’t pander. He’ll pick someone who will be fully capable and willing to make America great again. It will be someone, too, who the Washington Cartel would be so assured of the aforementioned MAGA principle from his pick, they would never dare assassination risks.

The only confident black woman is condi rice. There’s no one else out there frankly. Picking Newt says the line is drawn...we’re talking issues. Newt is the only one who can actually go anywhere like Trump and debate the issues and persuade people.
Trump controls the news in better ways than tokenism. Tokenism is not going to win woman or minorities. Rather it is Trump's demonstrating in every policy position and explaining in every speech that he will be President for all Americans. He has done that well and I think that message will slowly get around despite the lying media.
You are dreaming if you think that winning will be about debating issues.
Hussein did not win by debate. This is not the 60’s.
It is about emotional persuasion and optics
Gingrich is going to hurt Trump.
He is better if he campaigns for Trump, but not as VP.
Christie, the same, he is another Huckabee, a one trick pony.
Trump needs to find another infighter, Like Walker.
Someone younger who can fight the Biden Warren ticket that is coming.
Someone as brave as Trump.

1. I can't think of a more inappropriate and useless selection for VP than Newt Gingrich. He's a fat old guy who has been a Beltway hack for decades and hasn't been in political office in almost 20 years. Put Trump and Gingrich on a stage together and you might have the most awful-looking ticket in the age of television campaigns. Voters would be turned off by the mere appearance of these two.
2. Christie is younger and more energetic and more relevant than Gingrich, but he's another establishment guy through-and-through. He doesn't bring anything to the ticket at all, and his unpopularity in his own state will make him an anchor on this campaign.
NOT going to be Newtie....he has had 3 wives also,and he would upstage Trump many times.
He's been a Beltway insider for years and hasn't worked an honest job outside of government in his life. Donald Trump -- who is running as an outsider -- would destroy his credibility by picking him.
If Trump needs Newt Gingrich to help him win Georgia, then he’s facing a Mondale-like disaster in November.

Newt might make a better vp. But not necessarily a better candidate to win. Too many old white males. I would pick Colonel West or Colonel Ernst for veep. Either will garner more votes.
“Working with Congress” smacks of log-rolling, horse-trading, and earmarks.
How about rolling over Congress, going over their heads to the people, threatening them with primarying?
