I bet that last one was at Eglin. That, or possibly my back yard.

I just remembered another tool which works pretty well.
I was in a pawn shop and noticed a pile of bolo style machetes. I would guess the blade was maybe 15 inches with a rounded top near the end. That gave them extra weight without making the blade thicker. They were made in Brazil and looked OK to me. Sure enough they were of high quality despite the one dollar price.
It has stood up to long and hard use. Still not as good overall as the Ontario 18 inch models but they still have their place.

According to the original article, this soldier is 27 years old and has 15 years of combat experience. I did not realize that British allowed people to enlist at such a young age. Have you considered the possibility that the SASman involved is originally from one of the old Gurkha units [or Gurkha Signals] and that his first combat experience in his youth may have been prior to enlistment with the British Army?

A Special Air Service (SAS) soldier armed with just a Gurkha knife reportedly stabbed to death three Islamic State (Isis) jihadists who attempted to capture him in Fallujah. Of course if it had been a Gurkha and there were only three of them, he would not have needed to use the knife. A machinegun tripod would have done fine.

The original article indicates he was not a Gurkha but was given the knife by one.

The original article indicates he was not a Gurkha but was given the knife by one. Yes, I'm somewhat familiar with things like that happening.
But don't believe everything that you read about the SAS.
