Sen. Ted Cruz Negotiating Speaking Role at Republican Convention
NBC News ^ | July 6, 2016 | Leigh Ann Caldwell

Sen. Ted Cruz may be on the list of speakers at the Republican National Convention that Donald Trump said he plans to release on Thursday.

Three sources, including one close to the Trump campaign, tell NBC News that Cruz is in negotiations for a speaking spot at the convention. It would be a notable shift for Trump, who previously said his former opponents who haven't yet endorsed him wouldn't be invited to speak. In response to those comments from Trump, a Cruz spokeswoman said at the time that the Texas senator wasn't expecting to receive any time on the schedule.

If Cruz does indeed speak at the convention, it would be a boon for both the senator and the presumptive GOP nominee, who is still struggling to unite the party behind his candidacy with less than two weeks to go until the convention kicks off in Cleveland. Cruz is widely expected to make another White House run in the future, and his appearance at the convention would further elevate him within the party. It could also help convince his former supporters to back Trump, many of whom remain skeptical of the presumptive nominee — and a small cohort of whom are trying to force a contested convention to oust Trump.

“I get your point but the country did very well between 1900 and 1969.”

It took that long for progressive policies to seriously erode our nation’s foundational strength. Until the Obama era, leftists used great restraint and slow incremental steps, to fundamentally alter America.

Once he was elected, all the restaints came off, and they’re now in a mad dash to overthrow our founding charter once and for all. They’re not even trying to hide it anymore.

I believe the late Mark O. Hatfield gave this kind of keynote speech in 1964 to which you refer. But was elected senator two years later.

Those of Cruz’ supporters who are conservative will do anything and everything they can to prevent a Queen Hillary reign/final nail in the coffin of the US. They’ll need no external motivation for that; they’ll do it simply for love of country.

“I guess he’d rather have Hillary in the WH.”

He’s given us no reason to think otherwise. None.

+1 Cruz could look you in the eye and explain that a Natural Born Canadian citizen is EXACTLY what the Framers had in mind for POTUS. If you didn’t believe him, he’d have his followers explain to you how ignorant/not-very-bright you are.

Oh, worse than that, Ted Cruz claimed there could be a 'case' made that Trump was NOT eligible to hold the office of president because Trumps mother was born in Scotland.... Ted Cruz neglected to say that Trumps mother was a US citizen when Trump was born. It was in that debate that I saw what a fraud Ted Cruz literally is.

Funny on Ted Cruz the perpetual liar, that his daddy did NOT become a US citizen until 2005. I despise Ted Cruz, as much as any liberal democrat. What a fraud.

As an amateur historian I disagree.

What happened in my amateur view is after WW2 the American intelligentsia (if we can call it that) took on the British ideology of being the police man of the world especially with the threat of the Cold War Commies.

Some of which was good for America but one of the things that was bad was we adopted the ideology of globalism which many forget was the ideology of the world before WW1. The other bad thing about the Cold War is that in fighting communism the USA had to quickly change it’s ethnic problems that were slowly healing themselves. Why? Because the USA could not argue to be the world’s leading democracy while we had Jim Crow laws in the South. That is the real reason LBJ (who really was fighting commies) was so eager to push Civil Rights laws. Those laws and systems were bad but because our elites feared the commies were taking advantage of our racial Achilles heels we sped up the cure and it has caused disruptions and bad feelings between the races at home.

‘Ted Cruz claimed there could be a ‘case’ made that Trump was NOT eligible to hold the office of president because Trumps mother was born in Scotland.... Ted Cruz neglected to say that Trumps mother was a US citizen when Trump was born.’

That was so, SO insidious. Cruz deliberately dragged Trump’s mother into the debate in hopes of shaking Trump’s equilibrium. He and Roe hoped Trump would shout, ‘Leave my mother out of it!’ Then Cruz would smugly pronounce Trump temperamentally unfit for the office of POTUS.

It was a shameless display, and showed just how low Cruz/Roe were willing to stoop.

Even if some Trump supporters treat them like dirt?

In the interest of full disclosure, I've already committed to supporting Trump -- ever since he passed 1237 delegates. But the ugly, lingering Cruzophobia on this forum is going to turn away more Cruz supporters than it's going to attract.

Perhaps not all Cruz’ supporters will make any effort to keep Hillary from destroying the country. Those of Cruz’ supporters who are conservative, however, will not be stopped or dissuaded from trying to save the country. That’s an integral part of being conservative.

No speech for Cruz. Doesn’t deserve it, not a team player and horrendous speaking voice that I hope never to hear again. That’s for starters.

Please, DO not come on here playing the victim. I am obligated to our Constitution, NOT some fraud who pees on it for self serving purposes. Ted Cruz signed a pledge to support the Republican nominee... and he has NOT.... Get off your poor me, I need to be caresses to accept the nominee. Ted Cruz is a freaking LIAR and a Constitutional fraud. Cruz treated me and our Constitution as ‘dirt’, and I will NOT forget.

What the hell are you ranting about?

Cruz is running for Senator. Have received calls asking for support even though I am not in the state of Texas. Probably because I gave to his campaign earlier in the year. Told them I will not support unless he endorses Trump.

He wants face time to get support for himself. It will not help Trump. Dump him!

There you go again, projecting. I am NOT ranting.... YOU Cruzmites are over the top with the belly aching, demanding what you are NOT entitled to have. I ignored your prior whines about the poorly mistreatment, of the Cruzmites and how they needed to be seduced into supporting Trump.... DO NOT play the victim card on me.

“Cruz has had a long history of being politically tone deaf. On the other hand if he’s watching the way the winds are shifting he might get on the nationalism bandwagon. I’d like to see that and have Cruz be an asset rather than a liability.”

I agree. Sometimes you have to swallow a bit and put up with folks that you don’t agree with 100% of the time, or even folks that you can’t stand - all with an eye to accomplishing a common goal. That’s true in families, with sports teams, with nations and political parties. I don’t like it, mind you, but reality doesn’t care if it is liked or not, it just IS.

My point was that people did not believe the Warren Report and soon didn’t believe anything the Feds said. Turns out that they were right. So was I.
