EXCLUSIVE – Newt Gingrich: I Would Consider Being Trump’s Running Mate
Breitbart.com ^ | 9 July 2016 | Patrick Howley

Posted on 07/09/2016 9:57:27 AM PDT by Rockitz

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich tells Breitbart News that he would consider being Republican candidate Donald Trump’s running mate in November’s general election. Asked if Trump has asked him to be running mate, Gingrich said, “No.”

Asked if he would consider being running mate, Gingrich said, “Yes.” But, “I think he has to make that decision.”

“It is the most extraordinary campaign of its time,” the former speaker added. “He’s come out of nowhere and defeated 16 other candidates.”

“If he catches fire he could be much like Reagan in 1980,” Gingrich said, noting that Trump could match those record numbers “if this thing continues to evolve and people learn how dishonest and unserious Hillary Clinton is.”

In conversation, Gingrich habitually rattles off ballot statistics for small nationalistic parties in other parts of the world, from Austria, where the election “is so close they’re going to have to re-run it because the establishment stole about 60,000 votes. The two parties that had run the country came in fourth and fifth,” to Rome, where Virginia Raggi won the mayoral election heading the populist Five Star Movement. To Great Britain.

“The British people heard from the establishment unanimously opposing it and the people just ignored them and rolled over it,” he said before he started talking about the election of a schoolteacher in Iceland.

Newt would be my favorite pick for VP and put a thumb in a few people’s eyes which would suit me just fine. I just don’t think Trump will pick a well known conservative like Newt. Whoever it is ... it will be designed to surprise and shake up the Hillary camp.

I thought we heard from all the Gingrich bashers in the last few days reciting the same stuff over and over. You guys should just create a NeverNewt.com web site.

I’m not remotely thinking about 94. I want someone that can go from day one, that can deal with the press with confidence, and whomever Hillary puts up, bring in a ton of intellectual heft, and the experience of the legislator. Whipping up crowds is Trump’s thing, and would not be Newt’s.

He is to be the razor attack dong to Trump’s carpet bombing.

There is NOTHING any other of the others “bring” that is remotely close.

Sessions? What is he bringing? Alabama? He isnt a dramatic speaker and isnt media savvy. He is just the “safe” choice on FR to mention.

All of the rest (whom no one here can agree with) are either unknowns or too minor league to get in on day one and MOVE.

They all have things that they have said or done that someone here doesn’t like, so this “100% or lose” BS is a canard at best.

yes - invaluable on the WH staff, but Newt would cost Trump heavily at the polls, IMO!

Do you mean the “Winner” who was reprimanded and fined $300k by his peers for ethics violations? You know, the first Speaker of the House to actually be sanctioned in this manner?

Sure, other speakers did far worse, but Gingrich plea bargained his way to the final settlement. That's just what we need, eh?

I agree. Newt as VP would be a mistake. His assets can be better utilized as Trump’s Chief of Staff.

The same Newt who did that commercial with Pelosi?

Yup. That one. The one that everyone has brought up hundreds of times because they think they are being clever, Just as when they accuse the Amish of blowing up stuff, and then there's the Toesucker references for the Sat 10+ years.

Gingrich is yesterday. By decades.

Trump doesn’t need that.

“Not that it really matters, but I am a black person.”

Well, I’d say that fact matters a great deal in responding to my inquiry. Our daughter’s boyfriend is from a Nicaraguan family, and he is mixed race. Through him, we have seen and heard about the discrimination he has to bear, and it isn’t a pretty situation. So much to say, if you haven’t actually walked in somenone’s shoes, you probably can’t understand how life affects him. As I see it, we have life’s realities bumping up against human rights. It has devolved into perceived self-preservation trumping equality. I guess for me, equal economic opportunity has to preceed any resolution. BTW your comments were spot on, and I now understand where you’re coming from re Newt.

Who?? who might vote against him or stay home? Not conservatives, but I can assure you there many “unaffiliated” voters and disgruntled Dems who are Trump leaning, but will shy away from Trump if Newt is on the ticket.

Agree Newt would be best at Chief of Staff.

Re: General Flynn: how dynamic of a speaker is he and how would he handle the attacks from the marxists including the propaganda media?

I’ve thought it through quite well.

Your question has no bearing on this forum as the answer is obvious. But, this forum is an extremely small portion of the electorate.

Consider that the MSM will pounce upon Gingrich without mercy, and that will have an effect on those who don’t pay close attention to politics. Undecideds will be influenced.

Mr. Trump will need every vote he can muster, and to have Gingrich on the ticket makes no sense.

"but I can assure you there many “unaffiliated” voters and disgruntled Dems who are Trump leaning, but will shy away from Trump if Newt is on the ticket."

I haven't seen evidence of it but I don't hang out with unaffiliated. I sometimes encounter "moderate" Dems, but I don't think Newt will make the difference for them.

If they intend to commit Dem treason (blue collar workers in the east and mid-west) to vote for Trump, I don't think Newt will make a difference to them.

But I certainly do not know.

There are certainly more reviled potential VP candidates than Newt.
