No disrespect, Sir. But you, maybe more than most, are very well aware of the overriding culture within your profession that gives it a bad name. You are also aware that any policy starts at the top and can only be propagated by those who do not take their sacred honor to guide them.
Not digging at JAG but those civilian appointees that under our Constitution tell you what will or will not be irregardless of your advice, and I’m sure you are too well aware of that. I have been there on the technology side through my work at the Electronic Proving Ground.
Many times I finished giving advice and said, “But you’re the commander...”. On a few occasions I had to say, “Sir, you need to understand that the Air Force is my client, not you personally.” That was normally when the boss had just finished saying “This is what I’m gonna do, make it legal.”
