The NRA’s internal split over Philando Castile [Sheriff has not confirmed the CCW]
Washington Post ^ | July 10,2016 | Brian Fung

After a Minnesota police officer fatally shot a black man on Wednesday, gun control advocates weren’t the only ones criticizing the National Rifle Association. Some of the blowback was coming from within the organization.

The NRA is facing internal division as its members argue that the group did not do enough to defend gun owners’ rights by speaking out on behalf of Philando Castile of Falcon Heights, Minn., who was shot to death during a traffic stop.

Castile had a valid permit to carry a gun. He also reportedly informed the officer who shot him that he was armed in an attempt to head off a misunderstanding.

MN permit holder names are not public information.

And why I mentioned days ago that was likely the reason why the unnamed source who revealed he did have a CW permit to the local news remained anonymous, as they were likely in violation for doing so.

I also understand all the reasons for keeping on-going investigation confidential. But that begs the question, why did at least one county Sheriff in MN felt he owed us information when he publicly stated he did not have a CW permit? Double standard? What's up with that?

In addition, you know as well as I, simply reveling if he had a permit or not, is not going to change, alter and obstruct their investigation one way or anther. It wont change a thing. Zip.

It was not released by law enforcement.

It was allegedly recorded by a scanner listener who sent it to the media. In the recording the same plate number of the vehicle was heard, which was redacted by the organization who released it.

the girlfriend stated ‘there was some weed’ in the vehicle.

Isn’t having ‘weed’ in the car automatic, on-the-spot, right-now, immediately-if-not-sooner, revocation of CC, making whether he was or was not legally permitted a completely irrelevant point?

There are photos of him all over the place with something on his thigh that is not the seat belt or his arm, but black and sort of shiny and could easily be the barrel of a hand gun.

On a cold December day I went to tour the USGS Landsat facility near Sioux Falls, SD. I told the guard inside that I had left my drivers license on the car seat after showing it to the guard at the main entrance. He asked if I had any other forms of ID and I showed him my CCW permit. He said if it was good enough for my sheriff it was good enough for him.

I don’t know how to copy and link stuff on my kindle , but you’ll find info about the gun being visible at gatewaypundit and conservativetreehouse, both of them probably sourced from the star-tribune. I’d google star-tribune Castile gun.

The sheriff says his department did not issue a permit so you can believe who you want to believe.

Wait a minute, I never said I believed anyone regarding this event. I simply stated, “This local report clearly disputes that”.

Get it right.

I think whether it was his or his girlfriends is irrelevant when it comes to CCW rules. Seems to me it’s similar to having an open container - doesn’t matter if the driver or passenger is holding it - it’s open, so the responsibility falls on the driver, yes?

What about boyfriends, girlfriends, acquaintances, coworkers or uncles who opt not to say what is in their pockets before getting into your car? Do you search everyone before they get in your car? How would you have any control of that?

It matters if he was reaching for his ID, as the cop told him to do, not his gun.

Huh?

You think if weed is found in a car where the driver has a CCW that then gives the cop the authority to instantly regard his CCW as invalid, so he can therefore kill the guy for having an illegal weapon??

This guy was murdered for reaching for his ID, as the cop interacted him to do...

I never assigned guilt to anyone in this event nor assumed anything. I believe I have already told you that. If you feel otherwise, post my quote and we can discuss it. I should not take your long to do that.

But please stop attacking me with your reckless implications and baseless accusations which are simply not true. This is not about me so try to stay on subject.

If you’re asking what I’d do personally, it’s a matter of my self-interest versus their self-interest. Which makes it pretty easy to be cold-hearted about choosing one’s friends, and which relatives or coworkers to trust, much less allow in my vehicle. When in doubt, I’d call a cab and give him/her a 20 for the ride. And not apologize about it. The cabbie has a legal out.

Look, I don't think most normal folks search everyone they have ever given rides to in the cars. This is not real complex. Saying you know how honorable, trustworthy and legally perfect everyone who's ever been in your vehicle is just absurd.☺

G'night

A narrative given by the female in the car who with sociopathic calmness narrated what amounts to a snuff film. I rank her right up there with Dorian Johnson.

I’ve seen most all the links, videos, conflicting reports, inconsistent reports, many of which make no sense to me.

Did you see this one? (I've seen this on one other thread so far but I haven't read them all.)

Confirmed – Philando Castile Was an Armed Robbery Suspect – False Media Narrative Now Driving Cop Killings…

However, correcting the mirror image, in part of the video it is possible to see a hand gun located on the thigh of Philando Castile. This also appears to be why Officer Yanez repeats to Ms. Reynolds not to reach toward her boyfriend:
