CLEVELAND COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -
The sheriff of Cleveland County says his deputies were taunted by employees and served tampered food at a fast food restaurant while taking a lunch break in their uniforms.
Sheriff Alan Norman confirmed the accusations to WBTV after a post was made online by the wife of a deputy.
"As they walked up to place their orders, the boys in the back cooking the food started yelling at them and calling them names," she wrote about her husband's trip to the Zaxby's restaurant in Shelby.
She said her husband and his partner, who were both on duty and in their uniform, ignored the insults and continued ordering.
"Then, as they sat down to eat their food, my husband realized [they] had put the hottest sauce possible on [his] wings - to the point where his food wasn't even fit to eat," she continued.

Noticed and heard the same about Zaxby’s. Decent at first and now being run more into the ground and hiring people I would never want near my food.
Go in there with a Trump hat and give us a report. (Never heard of them, not up in my neck of the woods)
Zaxbys here sucks!.......
It’s a pity, really. Their food was generally better than most fast food and didn’t cost much more, in a nicer environment. Felt more like a sports bar and restaurant, minus the alcohol. They’re really damaging themselves by allowing this to continue.
Nothing like a little "payback" with less reason to hire these perps.
We vote with our dollars and that place deserves neither customers nor police protection, come time for the next riot (er, "demonstration!")
Was at a local Mexican restaurant where they made the salsa so hot it could peel paint. When I complained, my waiter shrugged and said, "Oh well, the chef 'decides' how hot he wants and it's always different!"
I responded when I sent it back and was leaving, "You can tell the chef and owner, I decide whether not to pay for food that is inconsistent at the whim of a chef! I'll not be returning to find out if or when he 'decides' to pay attention to the customer!"
For the record let me state that the best breakfast I ever had was at a Denny’s in Florida with an ole black chef. Man that guy could cook. Leftism/Globalism is the disease.
They should have gone to Alston’s. Locally owned and much better food, They have some of the best Western North Carolina style BBQ outside of Lexington.
Nah, I would have stuck it in a bag and maintained chain of custody of the evidence,
Tampering with food is a serious felony.
Burn (as in arrest and imprison) the perps and shut the place down!
PS Zaxby’s lurkers (if any of you are here), neither I nor anyone I know will EVER eat at your dumps again...
Tomorrow is free food at CFA. Cow appreciation day. Look it up.
Just search ‘Zaxbys Shelby North Carolina’ and get their YELP, Facebook, website and other links to leave messages, posts, contact them, etc.
Is it getting to the point All Lives need to protect Blue Lives....at restaurants, etc?
Lawsuit time.
I’ve never had anyone do that to me, but if they did I’d turn around and walk right out, notify management up to the corporate level.
Mis-preparing a recipe with ingredients all certified safe for food, would not even bring a misdemeanor down. At the most they would owe the price paid back.
Time to bring out the robots. Throw those losers in a pit and let them rot.
I live near the Zaxby’s in question and this story is very disappointing. Our county Sheriff and his Deputies are good, Christian people and the people of our county respect law enforcement. I have eaten at this Zaxby’s but not in the last year or so but it was a clean, nice place with good food for a fast food place.
It’s so sad to see good Southern manners disappearing along with so much of what is good and decent in this country.
Oh and BTW. I feel for the franchisee of this Zaxby’s. If they don’t get to the bottom of this and fire those responsible the people of Cleveland County will avoid it like the plague.
for what, the price paid?
Agreed
I did something similar in a restaurant at the Phoenix, AZ airport. A Black man bussing tables deliberately bumped into customers hard as they tried to get past him. The place was crowded and as I tried to navigate around him carrying my food he really slammed into me -- no accident, very calculated and deliberate despite his obviously insincere "apology." He had a memorable mess to clean up at my table when I left.
I assume that officer would not like my home made hot sauce. My last years batch was 95% Ghost, 5% habenaro.
Sadly my reapers didn't germinate this year. I had intended to up the heat for this years batch.
