Bush needed to add a level of serious to the ticket. Trump is Serious with a capital S. He doesn’t need anyone for ‘gravitas’ or any of that. What he does need, is someone to add a broader appeal, to show the unbelievers that he’s not ‘out there’. I don’t think he needs another old guy on the ticket. I think he needs someone younger but experienced.
he said once that he wanted someone with about 20 years political experience. I think someone good looking and charismatic would be a plus. Besides, he is painting a picture of a bright future for America. I don’t see him picking someone close to his own age.

Newt himself said he relates to Trump as a disrupter. What is unique about Newt is that he has long standing relationships with people on both sides of the aisle.

But Newt isn’t a Rino. He is a patriot who has mastered the art of maneuvering the waters to get the will of We the People done in Washington.

It’s good that he knows these people who respect him. However, these same people were backing Romney over Newt in 2012 which tells you everything. While they respect and like Newt, they also know that Newt is a disrupter against the establishment. Newt is not the establishment.

Might have been in December, but sometime last year, Newt read Trump’s Art of the Deal for the first time. And came to the conclusion they had very much in common which is why he continued to support Trump. It was last December that Newt said that Trump was going to kick over the tables.

Meanwhile, even up until April, 2016, Pence was neutral and then finally endorsed Cruz. You can see why it’s hard to take Trump choosing Pence over Newt, especially when Newt can run circles around everyone.

Sorry, I don’t carry.

I can carry on my own property and I do own a lot of land here, way more then most people do in this state. But I usually don’t.

The crazy CCW permitting process here in New Jersey was in place way before Christie showed up. I will say this, he has done very little to change this, but I can’t blame him for it either. If we had a republican/pro gun state house we might have been able to do something, but we don’t. I can’t blame Christie 100% for this, but he isn’t 100% innocent either.

To call him a gun grabber is unfair. He hasn’t grabbed anyone’s guns. I just want to make that clear

The role of Chief of Staff is that of a mover and a shaker. Where POTUS goes, the COS goes. The COS will be in far more meetings with foreign leaders than the VP will. And, remember, NO ONE sees POTUS without going through the COS.

Trump is going to win because of Trump. No VP is going to sway any states that Trump is already very competitive in. For example, no way would Pence help Trump win OH over Newt. Trump will win OH and many other competitive states because of Trump.

Newt will be there to fight the media on a level that they are not comfortable with. All the while, helping craft the first of many ‘First 100 Days’ of the Trump administration.

Bernie Sanders was very popular with Millennial. Young people love older candidates. Bernie Sanders campaign showed that day in and day out. Newt is very savy on social media. It is wrong to say the younger generations won't get behind Newt.

Didn't Ernst sort of take herself out of contention for the VP slot in one of her interviews?

young people loved Bernie because they thought he was a revolutionary.
Newt can be great, but Newt also has issues.

Whomever he picks, will probably not matter as much as it will for Hillary or McCain- in both cases, the VP choice will be more exciting than the nominee. Trump won’t have that problem unless he picks Kevin Hart or Bruno Mars.

“There are problems with all of them except Jeff Sessions, and he seems to be out of it.”

Perhaps not. Yahoo News reported earlier today that Sessions flew to Indianapolis to meet with Trump and his family, while they were there. Maybe he was just there to give Trump advice on Pence and the other choices, but you never know.

Free Republic was all in for Newt back in 2012

It is a little different now. We were looking at him for the presidency. Many of us felt like he was young enough then to serve eight healthy years as the POTUS. Today, he is four years older, and being consider for the VPOTUS.

In a best-case scenario, Trump serves eight-years as POTUS, and afterward his VPOTUS is elected as POTUS. It seems like a real stretch to believe that Newt is in a position age-wise to be young enough to serve that long. He is 73 now, and would be 81 in eight years.

Ronald Reagan was 70 when he was elected the first time. We really need someone young that will be younger and healthy.

Bush and Obama each chose running mates that were not realistic for being elected afterwards. Just my humble opinion.
