The world will act up while the US has a paper tiger at the helm.
Some of the people coming out were suicidal. Saw a video of an armored vehicle mowing down half a dozen fairly horrifically. The crowd more and less kept running after the vehicle and did not care much for the flattened bodies.
This isn’t Ataturk’s Turkey. The country is becoming fundamentalist.

A lot of twitter posters are theorizing that this was a false flag operation for Erdogan to seize more power, like the Riechstag Fire.
Erdogan does seem to have rekindled the Kurdish conflict just to regain power after his party lost their Majority in last June’s elections (successfully). He is also widely speculated to have his intel services pop some chemical weapons in Syria a few years back - attempting to pin responsibility on Assad, and draw the US into the Syrian War (unsuccessfully).
So while I wouldn’t put it past him to attempt it, I doubt his ability to pull it off at this scale.
Stratfor seems to think that the coup plotters were Gulenists, and that is why most senior brass did not support the coup.
Regardless of how the coup came about, Erdogan will seek to consolidate more power from it.

At the Airport, away from the city streets. His hard core supporters were there - but my question is who are his hard core supporters. I doubt that they are just a bunch of individuals, but rather are predominantly members of groups of some sort, that have been previously organized, agitated, indoctrinated or straight out hired.
I wonder what groups he has. They would need to be identified and planned for, if the General Staff were to plan a future full coup.
Secular soldiers would keep their mouths shut because Erdogan is going to appoint his loyalists into senior leadership.

That death toll seems ridiculously low. A military coup with at least 1,500 soldiers, tanks, aircraft and helicopters, ends up killing about as many as one islamic truck driver in Nice ? Later.

For the life of me I don’t understand how an American today enlists in the military and then watches our “president” support an “ally” that is providing material aid to our enemy (ISIS).

See # 1236; last night it was reported these soldiers were ordered to kill any wounded ISIS members seeking refuge in Turkey...and our “president” encouraged people to support Erdogan.
Turkey deserves the misery they endure; Ataturk’s legacy is dead.
So the dictator gets to further consolidate and enhance his power?
