Probably safer there tomorrow than it was yesterday. The military are the good guys. And a good coup tends to make the ordinary criminals lay low until things cool off.
It’s still interesting that at least according to the CIA Fact Book, Turkey is some 99.8% Muslim.

Yes. Amanpour has exposed her Islamist leanings for all to see. She is frantically pro-Erdogan and fearful of how a secular, anti-islamist coup would affect NATO and world shipping. She is afraid this event puts Obama in a difficult position. The mask is off. She was babbling and rambling.

Having lived in Izmir for a couple years in the ‘70s, I’m surprised that it took the general staff as long as it did to restore democracy. They are historically much more secular that the current government, and the government usually served at their pleasure. One of the first things Erdogen did was purge the generals when he came to power which probably bought him a year or two.
Then Turkey can return to being the true ally it had been before for so long.
Whoever becomes president come Nov is in for one hell of a mess.
