Pence has low negatives and that helps with undecided and persuadable voters. It's up to him now. If he just unites the rest of the normally Republican voters around Trump/Pence it is worth it. Let Trump appeal to Reagan Democrats.

This is great news. I didn’t trust the NBC/WSJ or Fox News Virginia polls showing Hillary way ahead (NBC/WSJ was shown to be both way off and biased against Trump during the primaries, while the Fox polls have often been outliers or show swings so big as to be unlikely). I am afraid though that if Hillary picks Kaine for VP that might be just enough to put VA into her column. Trump better work the state hard, because it’s his best hope if PA doesn’t come through.

I doubt it. Trump should be up for the next week and then the democrats should be up with their convention. With all those not sure and Hillary down a point after Hillary’s crappy two weeks, I doubt she’s sweating at all.
Did you see Pence on Hannity last night? He made it clear that although he is a free trader, he agrees with Trump that our trade deals need to be renegotiated to be better for Americans. He said a great negotiator like Trump would be just the person to accomplish that. He’s not going to turn off nearly as many working-class Dems as you might think. He’s still better than Hillary on the trade issue.
Beyond that, most Reagan Dems I know are Christians who lean toward social conservatism. They are likely to find Pence attractive because of that. And, let’s face it, very few people vote for the VP anyway.
She already is maxed out on the minority vote; she is lagging among Whites. How does Castro help ? He doesn't. Kaine may, or Hickenlooper, but they may not. I hope she picks Warren.

“Reagan Democrats” still exist, but the term itself is hopelessly amorphous. Much like “soccer moms.”
My parents will be voting Trump. It will be the first they have ever voted for a Republican candidate. I know quite a few blacks that will vote for Trump. They have never voted Republican before as well. They cannot stand illegal immigration.
