Anti-Trump Dissidents Disrupt Convention, Fail To Stop Nomination
ZeroHedge ^ | 18 Jul 16 | Tyler Durden

In a brief period of excitement (especially for completely unbiased John Harwood), Republican factions trying to stop Donald Trump's nomination noisily disrupted a vote on party convention rules. But, as The Hill reports, the Republican National Committee ignored the outcry from the angry delegates and adopted the convention's rules by a voice vote, rebuffing shouts by those looking to mount a last-ditch effort to sink Donald Trump.

As Bloomberg reports,

Delegates from Colorado were seen walking out of the convention hall, and former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli was spotted angrily throwing his convention credentials to the floor.

The disruption Monday on the first day of the convention was the first sign of fracturing within the party ahead of the presumptive Republican nominee's appearance in the hall Monday night to introduce his wife, Melania.

Former Senator Gordon Humphrey says he filed requisite signatures from nine delegations to force roll-call vote on Rules. Humphrey, a New Hampshire delegate, said he's not confident RNC staff has "courage" or "independence" to "stand up" to pressure from Trump organization to disallow or ignore petitions.

Humphrey, who opposes Trump's nomination, called the presumptive nominee's supporters "brown shirts" during an interview with MSNBC.

"They act like fascists," Humphrey, who represented New Hampshire for two terms in the U.S. Senate, said.

Senator Mike Lee, a Utah Republican, said he could not fathom the decision by the convention organizers in an interview with CNN.

“If what they want is unity, treat us respectfully as delegates," Lee said. He called the incident "surreal."

* * *

In the end, the rules were adopted by voice vote shortly after 4 p.m., then after frantic protests, a second voice vote was taken as Trump opponents shouted repeatedly for a roll call vote.

Important note to Donald Trump.

These people do not just reject you. They reject your ideas. Conservative Republican ideas. As such, if they hold any positions of power in the Republican party, their actions today should be interpreted as vocal resignations from those positions of power.

If they do not leave voluntarily, they *must* be fired, because otherwise they will tirelessly work to undermine your political agenda, conservatism, and the Republican party itself.

They are asps. Do not hold them to your breast.

If they are elected officials, they no longer deserve one thin dime of party support. Instead that support should go to a primary challenger of theirs who is supportive of both conservatism and your presidency.

Exactly. I want to scream whenever she talks about the ‘will of the people’...and I voted for Cruz!

BTW, it seems that the rule changes they want (knowing they won’t unbind the delegates) have to do with the next primary season - changing the schedule to benefit Ted Cruz.

Again, I voted for Cruz, but SCREW HIM. His minions are staging a tantrum, trying to position him for a 2020 run. SCREW HIM.

They’ve all got this notion that we’ll ‘grit out 4 years of HRC’, and then magically elect Cruz in 2020. Not going to happen.

2016 is what matters today.

I wish they had shown even half as much spirit in fighting the democrats to the last ditch.

Of course, if they had then they would not be in the position they now find themselves.

These malcontents already knew they couldn’t win their argument against Trump, and that’s all it is, by trying to change the rules and not go with the vote of the people. They are just trying to get their 15 minutes of fame which I’m hoping will be remembered when they come up for re-election. I gotta give them credit. When they go down, it will be big, bigger than that, bigger than that.......And they will soon be trying to change the rules in the fast food industry. “Would you like fires with that?”

LOVE THE GRAPHICS!! I watched this unfold on live TV and had to laugh! These people are just absurd and they don’t know how to walk away gracefully and cut their losses. They don’t want to give up their lifestyles and they have these delegates eating out of their hands convincing them that it’s all about the people when in reality it’s about living on K Street. It’s about limousines, preferred dining tables in fah-fah restaurants. It is not about the will of the people or they would have backed off a long time ago and backed The People’s Choice Donald J Trump! I don’t think I’ve ever been happier than to see these people smacked down in public, once again. Why Ted Cruz is speaking I have no idea but that’s going to be an even bigger faux pas for these bunch of cry baby losers. It would be fabulous if they just unplug the microphone when Ted took the stage. ....

Isn’t it Colorado where the delegates weren’t elected? Logic would be not to accept their credentials.

Wasn’t Ken Cuccinelli the loser in the VA Governor race?

Did an awful Terry McAuliffe win because of the terrible campaign of Ken Cuccinelli?

He should never have been given any credentials to attend the Convention, the Republican Party has enough losers with McCain and Romney, we don’t need any more.

1. Curious how they never compare the pro-establishment protestors of 2016 to the pro-RonPaul protestors of 2012.

2. CBS told a story of mass chaos on the floor and massive protests of the chair. The story positioned the establishment as the NO voters.

Then CBS showed the floor vote with a massive 95% of delegates shouting NO. The way CBS positioned the two parts of the story, the clear inferrence was that it was the establishment protestors who voiced the massive NO.

But as I understand it, it was the Trump supporters voicing the massive NO against a motion of the establishment.

For Trump to win, the Trump supporters have only 1 choice:
Go door-to-door as happy warriors for their candidate. The Trump supporters must get around the manipulations of the media.

rules can be changed from time to time
but
changing the rules with the stated purpose of denying the nominatinon to the highest vote-getter
is not playing fair

not at all

and I was never a Trumpster

I used to think so highly of Cucenelli. That was then, before he made his loyalties known.
Stay with the Whigs,then!
