Yeah they do. ASCAP licenses generally have exceptions for political events. The band members could theoretically sue but their damages from a one-time occurrence would be almost impossible to prove. Trump's campaign should drop the song and move on.
Yeah, but what a voice...!
If he does then why isn’t he using the music anymore?
Doesn’t it suck. I’m down to listening to Ted Nugent.
“So long as they pay the appropriate royalty fee to AASCAP Trumps campaign does not need their permission.”
Dig deeper.
1. Right of Publicity
2. The Lanham Act
3. False Endorsement
Trump should use “Stranglehold”...Ted wouldn’t mind.
He hasn’t died of HIV/AIDS yet???
No, “Killer Queen”.
Maybe Trump paid to use it
Talk to the hand now.
Henry Ford never said I could drive his trucks, either, but here we are.
1) First of all, you are an ass. It is an unprofessional attitude to not wish to serve people based on ideology.
2) Secondly, after you signed the papers with organizations that sell the rights to let people play your music at public events, you have given up your right to control the political views of who plays your music at public events.
3) Thirdly, you are not asked to actively go and participate in a ceremony you don't like...something that leftists force caterers to do under pain of being driven out of business.
4) Fourthly, shut up and sing. You are not famous for being smarter about politics than others, you are famous for making good music. If you want to be politically neutral like you claim, you would have kept your stupid mouth shut. Nobody has taken the playing of the champion song as your personal endorsement, and nobody cares who you endorse. Get over yourself.
Maybe Brian May...who knows?
But certainly not Paul Rogers.
Mrs. Rogers:
Freddie’s dead.
Hillary will enter the hall to: Fat Bottomed Girls
Best post of the day!
how the heck does this work? There are events all over the place and songs are played over loudspeakers. Is the trigger for royalties the fact that this event is televised? Or should royalties always be paid but no one does it? There are fairs and events and then there’s cover bands playing all the time.
It seems like selective outrage to me by liberal musicians when conservatives use their music.
Maybe he should a new song:
Where have all the Rinos gone?
Long time wussies!
Where have all the Rinos gone?
‘Bout time they went!
Where have all the Rinos gone?
They’re sitting home sucking their thumbs!
I guess they never learned. . .
I guess they never learned. . .
Oh, and Trump says you need to bake him a cake, too, boys. Get on it.

“The campaign then must pay a small fee to the performing rights organizations. BMI, for example, charges 6 cents for every campaign rally attendee at an event where the music is played. A portion of the 6 cents goes to the artist.
But the use of the music can’t escalate much past the rally without more permissions. A political campaign, even with a blanket license, couldn’t use Adele’s music in a campaign commercial for TV or YouTube without permission and a separate license.
A long list of musicians, including Jackson Browne, Don Henley and David Byrne, have sued political campaigns for using copyrighted songs without permission in commercials or videos but not for playing their music at rallies.”
