An unarmed Florida therapist was shot by police while trying to calm down his autistic patient, authorities said.

Police in North Miami were responding to a report of a man with what appeared to be a gun when they came across Charles Kinsey and his patient, who had run away from a group home.

“When a soldier makes this mistake his life is ruined.”

So true. I have always used our soldiers as a litmus test for police shootings. If our soldiers would be in trouble for the shooting, then our police officers should be in bigger trouble. Our police officers are dealing with AMERICAN CITIZENS and should treat them as such.

Even if we remove all the BLM stuff, and we still are left with a giant use of force problem in our police force. It must be dealt with.

Where oh where are all the police from the earlier days? In the 50’s police were disarming suspects, literally taking down armed assailants without shooting them. Those were the true men, worthy of a badge. Todays crowd, not so much.

Do you think this started with the BLM? No, this adversarial attitude by law enforcement, this need to engage every situation as if it were a tactical shootout before arriving, has been going on for decades.

Exactly right. The anecdote you provided with your post illustrate the mentality well.It is unfortunate, but the police have become a threat to be avoided even by the law abiding because you never know what will set them off. It's sad, but they've been done in by their training.

~25% of fatal LEO shootings involve someone mentally ill.

I am not anti police & I abhor our ROE for our soldiers in war time. That being said MAYBE we should consider tightening up a little on those charged with protecting us. Specifically there needs to be more accountability for the screw ups. Some Mistakes should have consequences. No knocks at the wrong address should mean at least one person loses his job and his benefits. It’s also over due for police to stop treating the law abiding just like the criminals. And for Gods sake stop shooting all the dogs!

Shooting drills instilling a reflexive response to stimulus below conscious threshold??? A trained reflex to shoot when presented with specific triggers?

What you say would be right, IF the media focused as much interest on black cop on black victim and white cop on white victim as they do on white cop on black victim. The latter is the focus in order to push the Lefts agenda. It has nothing to do with trying to hold police accountable or improve police procedures as it does with an agenda.

Thanks Ray76. It just doesn’t sound right that someone who is trained, supposedly, in firearms use at that level needs that many shots.

I blame the ‘group home’ concept. Why take people from a large, safe facility and move them to a subdivision that looks like a residential home? At the larger facility, there are many staff that can watch for abuse, unlike in a group home there are a very few staff members, so it is easier to abuse the residents. The place is not as safe, it costs more, the residents have to be transported everywhere for care, education, etc., whereas at a large facility there are on staff professionals in facility.

I am amazed at how many people without arms are being shot by the police.

It's going to be an interesting internal affairs interview, as well as civil deposition.

Interviewer: "Officer Smedley, did you discharge your service weapon, causing a round to strike Mr. Kinsey in the leg?

Officer Smedley: "Yes."

Interviewer: Officer Smedley, why did you shoot Mr. Kinsey?

Officer Smedley: "I don't know."

“The guy should have yelled I am a therapist and dropped any thing in his hand.”

HE DID.

He was laying on his back on the ground with both empty hands high in the sky. He explained that he was a therapist at a group home and that this was a patient. He explained that the 23 YO autistic man had a toy truck in his hands.

ALL THAT.

WHILE he was laying on his back, the cop shot him.

There was NO provocation. NOTHING that warranted force. NOTHING.

Find the video and see for yourself.

This was the worst shot that I’ve ever seen in my life!

Watch the video. They knew. The department is acknowledging that they knew. The situation was as clear as day and the therapist (the one actually SHOT) was obviously NOT a threat.

They didn’t shoot the one not cooperating. They shot the man laying down with his hands in the air.

~25% of fatal LEO shootings involve someone mentally ill.

I guess this one falls into the 75% of the cases where the person the police shoot aren't mentally ill.

Uhh, he DID yell he was a therapist, he DIDN’T have anything in his hands, and he was laying on the ground. The cop’s an idiot. It’s got nothing to do with BLM or Obie, the cop is just plain a moron.

WTH is “weapon control”? A gun is an inanimate object incapable of any autonomous action. It cannot move a millimeter on its own. It cannot point itself and it cannot fire itself. This officer does not need better “weapon control” he needs better “self control”.
