Cruz’s performance last night was all about 2020. He stayed as long as he could in front of the cameras and lights all for the sake of 2020. His appearance had nothing to do with the 2016 election except possibly he wouldn’t mind seeing the election thrown to Hillary if he thought that would increase his chances in 2020.

There are certain people I will automatically turn off when they appear on TV. Cruz is now one of them. I used to think maybe he was OK. But as of now, I can’t stand the guy, at least as far as his political aspirations or public persona goes. When he talks, his words sound tinny and hollow to me - nothing solid, no ring of authenticity. Last night was no exception.

I just read a short biography on Benedict Arnold. What came through was a fatal flaw that Arnold’s personal ambition was more important than the lofty goals he was supposed to be fighting for. That’s Ted Cruz. Cruz supposedly stands for constitutional freedom but he’s shown me he puts his own political ambition and future first. In that sense, Ted Cruz is a Benedict Arnold as far as I’m concerned.

Someone said Cruz thinks he’s Reagan in 1976. Apparently his dad and apparently Cruz himself, think that Cruz has some sort of Divine Right to become President. I think they’re both nut jobs.

Cruz has ZERO chance in 2020..if Hillary Clinton becomes President, she will import MILLIONS of Syrian Refugees here, give 20+ million illegals citizenship, and abolish the 2nd Amendment..look what happened to Chris Christie, all he did was HUG the President in 2012 and his political career ended..that is all people remember him for, a HUG, cant tell me what Ted Cruz wasn’t 10 million times worse than a hug

Yes, I agree that he was trying to emulate the tactics of Reagan.

No sale.

Trump is a decent enough candidate for what we need to take place in Washington. I would term it even better than that, because he appeals to a broad spectrum of people.

Ted would have appealed mostly to die-hard Conservatives, and would have bled across the party membership.

He would not have appealed to Democrats, and more importantly Independents.

Trump will.

Ted has an over-inflated opinion of himself, and is woefully ignorant of the political dynamics in today’s environment.

He is one clueless guy.

He has no clue if he is hoping to get the WH in 2020. If she wins it they will make sure no Republican gets in it for generations.

I have been mad at Krauthammer, but he said it best:

I’m sorry, I just can’t accept the argument that Cruz is an idiot. 2020 is gone, poof. If Hillary wins, Republicans will gather around whatever governor stands up to Washington who will be carried through to the White House in 2020.

There’s not even a path if Trump does completely awful as president. The McRomney parts of the party will rise up and point out that Ted Cruz was part of the problem in 2016 and certainly isn’t a solution.

Maybe 20 years from now he’s got a shot again, but most likely, that was Ted Cruz’s last RNC speech.

I thought cruz had already left Cleveland to go back to Texas to meet with his whores there. He loves the whores and he knows that Heidi won’t be able to figure out that he is still diddlin’ many, many whores.

Ted Cruz has a choice - endorse Trump or have his political career destroyed.

If he wishes to stay in politics he can endorse Trump sooner or later.

In Newt Gingrich's convention speech, Newt wisely gave Cruz an out by explaining how Cruz actually did endorse Trump with his “vote your conscience” and held up that fig leaf for Cruz to grasp.

All Cruz needs to do is reach out and grab the fig leaf Newt held up for him and “clarify” his endorsement of Trump with minimal damage to his political career and minimal loss of dignity and humiliation.

If Cruz remains obstinate, he will eventually be forced to go crawling on his knees to publicly beg Trump to accept his endorsement and his apology to save what is left of his political career.

He probably will not be savvy enough to grasp the fig leaf so generously offered to him by Newt Gingrich.

Don't expect Cruz to take the easy out for the good of the country and the Republican Party.

As Paul Manafort has observed, even after Ted Cruz has finally managed to hammer the absolute last nail in his own coffin, Cruz steadfastly refuses to realize and accept that he is in the coffin, much less take the necessary measures to extricate himself from his own self nailed coffin.

This is a fatal and dangerous personality flaw for an man who wishes to President of the United States, Leader of the Free World and Commander In Chief of a Super Power military with his finger on the nuclear button.

Cruz should have honored his pledge. He obviously has forgotten Christ’s command to forgive.
Cruz has turned me into a former Cruz supporter,

And like Benedict Arnold, he has thrown in with the enemy because of perceived slights to his honor and a desire for personal glory. Good comparison. Benedict Cruz.

Seems he and Hillary share another opinion they both think they are entitled to the Presidency.

I don’t know why he’s focused on 2020, because he just lost access to just about every republican donor on the planet

The leaders of 160 nations watched Cruz refuse to stand by his promise. Doubling down this morning turned Cruz from a petulant man into a world-class pariah.
