That causes me to question the truthfulness of this story.
My parents came to this country legally many decades ago. They worked so hard for everything they have. The difference is huge between immigrants then and now.
Now it’s all about just that to most of them, criminals and parasites gaming the system.

After reading his comments, ie., no English spoken at home, no money to pay rent or put food on the table, parents clueless about college admission process, that he is the first one to leave home, etc., it appears to me that this little Latino boy belittled his parents, his family, and his home life. So he’s going to Stanford, but who is paying for his education, books, meals, plus room and board?

This is the fault of self-esteem movements coupled with social justice.
1. No one is allowed to feel bad, ever.
2. No one from official victim groups should ever have their pure selves challenged, even with statements of “hate facts”.
Hence the focus on narratives and feelings, versus reality.
3. Twisting the truth to suit political purposes is a moral act, even if it becomes a lie, as lying in Islam is acceptable if it furthers Islam. If he takes a conversation and compounds upon it with his narrative, it becomes a lie that represents his official truth and political correctness, and thus OK.
We’ve raised a generation trained to play the
