INFO LE FIGARO — An urgent legal requisition was sent to the urban supervision center of Nice on Wednesday, July 20. The Paris prosecutor expresses a desire to “avoid the uncontrolled dissemination of these images.”
Panic and incomprehension in the office of mayor of Nice. On Wednesday at 11am the Anti-Terrorism Sub-Directorate (SDAT) sent agents who manage video surveillance of the city a requisition citing Articles 53 and L706-24 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and Article R642-1 of the Penal Code, asking them for a “complete” erasure of 24 hours of images from six cameras named and numbered, but also of all the scenes from the beginning of the attack that took place on the Promenade des Anglais, on the night of July 14.
The state agents of the urban supervision center of Nice are stunned. “This is the first time we have been asked to destroy evidence,” says a source close to the investigation. “The CCTV center and the city of Nice could be prosecuted for this, and also the officers in charge of the device don’t have jurisdiction to engage in such operations.”
We do not know that giving a destruction order while we are in full backup is not going to affect the whole system,” the investigators say with concern.
Contacted by Le Figaro, the Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed the information and said: “This was done in this case to prevent the uncontrolled and unchecked dissemination of these images.” The national police remind that “out of the thousand cameras in Nice, 140 had elements relevant to the investigation. The police recovered 100% of them. The Judicial Police and prosecutors have asked for the pictures from these 140 cameras to be deleted, to prevent malicious use of them, concerned for the dignity of the victims and to prevent the reproduction of these images by jihadist websites for propaganda purposes.” Finally, at the chancery, it is specified that the application of a “complete” erasure is explained by the inability to undertake partial destruction of such equipment.

What's significant is that he was an Iranian-German who held dual citizenship, and that the shooting was not a rightwing reaction to immigration, as some persons had suggested. On the other hand, the claim that he shouted "Allahu akbar" is doubtful, to say the least.
The claim stems from the telephone remarks of someone identified only as Lauretta. She was found soon after the initial attack when a reporter called businesses in the vicinity of McDonalds in hopes of finding a witness.
I'd like to believe what she said because it serves the cause of anti-Islamization, but she makes several claims that bring her testimony into question. 1) That her son saw the shooter loading his pistol in the bathroom, and that she herself was only "two centimeters" away from him when he started shooting. That's possible, but unlikely.
As for the loading, the shooting hadn't started yet. Why wouldn't he have brought his gun from home already loaded? And would he have started shooting with someone just "two centimeters" away, and possibly in a position to subdue him (or, at least, impede him enough to allow others to do so)? I doubt it.
2) Most important -- she claims that he shot children inside McDonalds -- "the children were sitting to eat". As far as I know, no one was shot inside. A video shows him standing outside, in front of McDonalds, and firing at people who are approaching. If anyone has information that bodies were found inside, please post it. Until then I'm forced to assume that her story is a fabrication.

re: “two centimeters” I think it’s just an expression to say that she was shocked at how close he was. of course he was more than just a few cm away. She said she came out of the bathroom... so she wasn’t right there as he decided to begin shooting. Some things do sound surprising, I agree about that, such as that he would shoot with his back to the bathroom door(s) where he might be vulnerable to attack from behind. But he may have started shooting very quickly after emerging from the bathroom. As for loading the gun there, sure that seems odd, but the very quirkiness makes it seem plausible, i.e., why would she fabricate such a detail?? why??? It is not what would occur to anyone making up a story about this kind of thing.
I don’t see any reason to suppose that someone reached by phone in a neighboring store while the shooter might still be around the area would care to fabricate such an account. What possible motive could she have to make up such a story??? It’s far too simple to be the work of a scheming mind.
re: inside vs outside the McDonalds, probably both
The short video we have all seen, in front of the McDonalds, certainly does not show bodies all over the place. We are told that he shot 36 people (9 dead and 27 wounded are the figures I have seen). It certainly did not look like he shot 36 people in front of the McDonalds. Probably there was shooting inside as well as outside.
