Indeed. And the antisemitic posts on various web forums and comment sections are on the rise. It’s a rare thing these days for me to read comments on an article without finding someone blaming some aspect of something on “the Jews”.

My dad was in the 88th/351st Army Infantry. Ended up in
Germany at the last. He stated to me years ago that he had
seen dead bodies stacked ten feet deep for a distance of
one-eighth of a mile at one of the camps. I guess the Nazis
were falling behind in their corpse burning when they had
to scoot or get shot.

The scale of it all is hard to comprehend. Also, how most Germans weren't even aware of it. The photo below (also from the excellent HistoryInPix twitter feed) shows German POWs reacting to footage of what happened in the concentration camps.

B-24 Liberator, that was a real bomb truck and apparently a beast to fly.

George McGovern was a B24 pilot. He was a political liberal but an honest man. He did his duty in the war.

My uncle was a US Army CID (If that’s what they called it then!) investigator he had several shoe-boxes of black & white photographs of the camps. I assume he and others took these photos while they were collecting evidence for the Nuremberg War Crime trials. Those photos did not look very “official”, they looked like they were taken by ordinary GI’s with personal cameras. My uncle wouldn’t talk much about it. I have no idea what my cousins did with them. The cousin my age only has a vague recollection of them. When my uncle died his oldest daughter handled the estate and likely threw them out. History was not at all interesting to her even when it involved family history. Unless it could be used to increase social standing in our little community All of us who might of cared at the time were several states out of the area
