Migrants and Smugglers Won’t Be Stopped by Donald Trump’s Wall, Ranchers Say
New York Times ^ | July 24, 2016 | DAN BARRY

...

The solution favored among ranchers is infused with a fatalism that nothing will change — government being government, and the cartels always one step ahead — so why bother. But here it goes:

Intensive, round-the-clock patrols along the border are required for a fence or wall to work; otherwise, those determined to cross will always find a way. But, they argue, if you have boots on the ground, you will have no need for anything so beautiful as the Great Wall of Trump.

It is easy, from a distance, to dismiss the ranchers along the border as right-wing Chicken Littles whose complaints hint of racism. Too easy, in fact.

Ranchers will say they saw people with backpacks trekking across their property last week, last night, early this morning. Some will say they have grudging agreements of access with drug cartels, as long as trespassers stay far from their homes. Dogs bark, motion lights flicker, things go missing.

The unnerving has become everyday life, Mr. Ashurst says, and then he asks my colleague and me where we live. Metropolitan New York, we answer.

Nice, Mr. Ashurst says, still scowling. “But how would you like it?” he asks, referring to the ebb-and-flow parade of strangers, some armed, past his door. “Do you think you’re more important than the poor moron who has the misfortune to live along the border?”

True, the overall number of migrants has plummeted in the last 15 years or so. Here, in what the Border Patrol categorizes as the Tucson sector — about 90,000 square miles, with 262 miles of border — there were 63,397 arrests in the 2015 fiscal year, compared with 10 times that in the 2001 fiscal year.

This has always been the ultimate libtards “argument” ....

After you are a “raaaaaciiiisssst” , we can do nothing against uncontrolled immigration !

So let it be ..... and let’s go full speed to the brave new “global world” , with a big big ( non democratic ) government

Maybe not, but it will slow them down.

Is that because they aren’t arresting them?

Bingo.
Even watering stations are provided.

I doubt any solution would be 100% but it would make a huge dent in the numbers.

Sensors will be in the wall, so that when it is touched in a specified way, the precise location will be obvious.

Agreed, not even the Great Wall of China kept out all invaders, but it certainly did its part to mitigate those who tried

The Great Wall of China worked very well...until the GUARDS began to accept bribes to allow undesirables in. The HUMAN factor caused it to fail.

Terrorist in general

Without a formal declaration of war a country is limited in what it can do. With a declaration of war things change.

Will congress go along with him on this, maybe not, but then it is on them as the terrorist attacks continue in this country.

Terrorism is not a crime, it is an act of war. Trump appears to understand this.

A physical “wall” is unnecessary.

Putting every available ICE and Border Patrol officer on the border armed to the teeth with a clear directive that says “Illegal immigration amounts to an armed invasion by hostile foreign forces” will be all that’s needed.

Kill a few thousand border-jumpers/swimmers, and the invasion will stop. Throw a few dozen business owners that hire illegals in prison for 20 years, and the illegals will self-deport.

Simple - no multi-billion dollar “wall” required. All it takes is balls....

We have sensors and other technology to discover them. The Israelis have perfected them as well after they were surprised at the extent of the tunnels crossing their border.

A physical “wall” is unnecessary.

Wrong. Physical barriers are necessary if you are truly serious about securing the border or an airport or a military base, etc. Physical barriers are force multipliers. They lessen the need for manpower. It is common sense.

Kill a few thousand border-jumpers/swimmers, and the invasion will stop.

Never happen. There is no political will in this country to shoot unarmed people trying to enter the US illegally. It would counterproductive domestically.

Right----the physical "WALL" is symbolic. Other steps need to be taken in conjunction w/ the wall. Big changes need to be occur in our welfare laws that are financing this illegal migration. Everyone knows they come here for the lucrative benefits (collected under several identities). Read on.

===========================================

According to the govt of Mexico, illegals on US soil are, in fact, Mexican citizens.

AFFIDAVIT BY THE GOVERNMENT OF MEXICO
IN A SWORN AFFIDAVIT TO A US COURT, MEXICO SWORE
THAT MEXICANS ON US SOIL ARE MEXICAN CITIZENS.

A sworn affidavit by Mexico/s Consul General to a Texas court asserts that Mexico/s official govt policy is to encourage its poor people to migrate here illegally in order to access our generous welfare system

The Mexican consul's sworn testimony asserts that: "My responsibilities in this position include protecting the rights and promoting the interests of my fellow Mexican nationals, and, that the main responsibility of consulates is to provide services, assistance, and protection to Mexican nationals abroad."

=========================================

A footnote states that Mexican nationality is granted to children born abroad of a Mexican born parent. IOW, anchor babies born in the US retain parents Mexican nationality.

NOTE This wipes out anchor babies......as well as Secy, Jeh Johnson and Obama's assertions WRT Obama's amnesty dictat that illegals have essentially "become American" b/c they go to school, have licenses to drive, and can even practice law in California.

Not saying it is the Warthog, just what was available before for close air support. It was designed specifically for the Army’s purposes. It was certainly as aerobatic on a scale of speed.

It was never going to be “JUST” a wall. The wall is a delaying tactic. It gives you time to react to an attempted intrusion.

Drones and or cameras can be 24/7/365 watch dogs, alerting border agents to respond to the locations. Electronically released tear gas or pepper spray could deter/delay invaders.

Electronically controlled machine guns or explosives would be a permanent deterrent.

The wall will work. The wall will be built, and Mexico will pay for it.

Screw the naysayers. “Can’t” never got anything done.

But, they argue, if you have boots on the ground, you will have no need for anything so beautiful as the Great Wall of Trump.

Bad logic. You need both the physical (and psychological) obstruction of the wall, and it needs to be actively manned and monitored. Put some of the unemployed to work in a renewed, revitalized border security force. It would do at least as much to combat terrorism as hiring former McDonald's employees to harass children and old women in TSA security lines.

Build the wall and man it. Controlling it's own borders should be the first order of business for any nation that intends to remain a nation.

“Can’t” never got anything done.

That's always been the goal of the open borders crowd, of course. They've colluded with the media for years to make the simple building and manning of a wall sound as difficult as a 1-hour flight to Alpha Centauri.

The wall, with guard towers staffed with soldiers with orders to shoot to kill anyone who approaches the wall.
