No, a wall or fence alone will not end illegal immigration. But a wall or fence, along with more patrols, and more enforcement in the interior (also against people who overstay visas) will reduce illegal immigration, and drug trafficking.

Sensors will be in the wall, so that when it is touched in a specified way, the precise location will be obvious.

A physical “wall” is unnecessary.

Putting every available ICE and Border Patrol officer on the border armed to the teeth with a clear directive that says “Illegal immigration amounts to an armed invasion by hostile foreign forces” will be all that’s needed.

Kill a few thousand border-jumpers/swimmers, and the invasion will stop. Throw a few dozen business owners that hire illegals in prison for 20 years, and the illegals will self-deport.

Simple - no multi-billion dollar “wall” required. All it takes is balls....

It was never going to be “JUST” a wall. The wall is a delaying tactic. It gives you time to react to an attempted intrusion.

Drones and or cameras can be 24/7/365 watch dogs, alerting border agents to respond to the locations. Electronically released tear gas or pepper spray could deter/delay invaders.

Electronically controlled machine guns or explosives would be a permanent deterrent.

The wall will work. The wall will be built, and Mexico will pay for it.

Screw the naysayers. “Can’t” never got anything done.

Trump has also promised real enforcement at the borders

But, they argue, if you have boots on the ground, you will have no need for anything so beautiful as the Great Wall of Trump.

Bad logic. You need both the physical (and psychological) obstruction of the wall, and it needs to be actively manned and monitored. Put some of the unemployed to work in a renewed, revitalized border security force. It would do at least as much to combat terrorism as hiring former McDonald's employees to harass children and old women in TSA security lines.

Build the wall and man it. Controlling it's own borders should be the first order of business for any nation that intends to remain a nation.

No. They won’t all be stopped, especially the ones who benefit from corruption in the American agencies and elected officials, but the traffic will be much reduced, especially the human traffic.

A properly designed wall makes patrols more effective. An unpatrolled wall accomplishes nothing.

A Border Wall won’t stop 100% of illegals and drugs coming across the border but it will reduce them to a very small fraction of the current levels.

Sure, it’s like Whack-A-Mole, once the border is shut down they will try to find other means of entry.

But that doesn’t mean we should just give up and leave the border open.

We can’t stop 100% of muggings, rape and murder either so should we just give up trying?

Allowing the Border Patrol to do their jobs will certainly help.

Perhaps having the active duty military deployed along the border would be a good idea before, during, and after the wall is built.

You could make sneaking into America punisable by death. You get one court hearing with one appeal and that is it.

How many people would then try it?

As conservatives, we must NEVER fall into the trap of giving SPECIAL-INTERESTS a HIGHER level of credibility than anyone else.

In this case, there is a vague concept for a border wall. No one really knows what it will look like (other than have Trump’s logo on it every 500 feet, LOL). The locals down there understandably fear the worst - seeing their beloved spreads torn-up and maybe cut off from some parts. They may be right - they may be wrong - they may be partially right. None of them know, just as none of us know, at this point.

But THE WALL IS NOT FOR THEM - it is not for the ranchers, farmers, or locals down there, anymore than a 4-lane interstate is for the farmers that have land split up. IT IS FOR THE COUNTRY. Yes, the wall may benefit some, as it benefits the country - it may even benefit them a bit more, if it keeps unwanted people off their land - and it may hurt them somewhat, and it may hurt a few of them significantly.

But again, THE WALL IS NOT FOR THEM. This country has a huge problem with illegals flooding in, and with previously deported felons slipping back in. They don’t stop at the border ranches, they go into the HEARTLAND - into cities like San Francisco and Houston (and many more), where they continue to kill. And they bring drugs, tons of them every day. Again, this affects the entire country.

As many here have stated, the wall is ONE PIECE of border control Anyone who thinks that Trump will simply build a wall, rub his hands together, and forget it’s there, simply doesn’t know Trump. Lots more will be done.

There are ways to make a wall extremely hazardous to ones health. Add triple concertina, high voltage, cameras mounted in cement on both sides and stations to monitor the cameras. Add day flights for visual recon of the area plus have night flights. Things will be much more difficult plus the border patrol being allowed to do their job will stop the majority. At present we have zilch, so; anything is better. These damn Dems will print anything and claim to be anyone.

Neither the great wall of China, nor the other great walls, were built with the idea of keeping out invaders. What they were intended to do was create an obstacle to raiders, quickly riding in, robbing and looting, and fleeing back home before they could be confronted and killed. The walls just slowed them down.

And in this, they worked as intended.

So what will a US wall do? It will *not* stop “all” illegal crossings. But that is not its intent. It will just add an obstacle to crossing, which alone may *reduce* the numbers of illegals crossing.

Right now, illegals move north in corridors. Passable areas without terrain obstacles, and near sources of water and roads. If *just* those corridors are blocked, it may reduce the number of illegals by 60%.

This is *very* cost-effective. But putting fence over land where crossings don’t often happen reduces things even further, perhaps another 15%, taking away the motivation to build roads on the Mexico side to facilitate crossing.

But it costs more, and has less effect, so it is less cost-effective. But 75% fewer illegal aliens are crossing.

The next step has been proposed by Donald Trump. This is to *tax* the money earned in the US which is then wired to Mexico. So Mexico does, in fact, “pay for the wall”.

This is a very good idea, because in effect it lowers the wages of Mexican nationals working in the US, precisely to wire back to Mexico their earnings. This makes working in the US a less attractive proposition.

And it they think they can hand carry it out of the US to Mexico, it will attract attention as being drug proceeds.

The next step is a peculiar one. Non-Mexican foreigners, including terrorists, will pay a premium to get into the US. The way to stop this cold is to offer a *bounty* on them, payable (anonymously) to Mexicans who inform on non-Mexican crossers.

Oddly enough, it does not have to be a great sum of money, and only works if the US catches the illegal non-Mexican crosser. Say $100 for just an ordinary illegal crosser. $500 if they are a “person of interest”, and $1,000 if they are a wanted terrorist or spy.

This is a good enough deal that even the ‘mules’ who would help them across the border would turn around and sell them out. Otherwise, every foreign crosser would be observed by a thousand hungry eyes.

Making our border airtight, at least to non-Mexicans.

Walls work well. These border ranchers must don’t want the wall running across their property. Sorry but it has to be done is my response to them.

Just trying to figure out which would be easier
to patrol, 90,000 square miles or 262 miles of border.

Duh!
