Russia Bombed Base in Syria Used by U.S
The Wall Street Journal ^ | July 21, 2016 | Adam Entous

An outpost near the Jordanian border that is used by U.S. and British special forces was hit by the airstrikes last month.

When Russian aircraft bombed a remote garrison in southeastern Syria last month, alarm bells sounded at the Pentagon and the Ministry of Defense in London.

The Russians weren’t bombarding a run-of-the-mill rebel outpost, according to U.S. officials. Their target was a secret base of operations for elite American and British forces. In fact, a contingent of about 20 British special forces had pulled out of the garrison 24 hours earlier. British officials declined to comment.

U.S. military and intelligence officials say the previously unreported close call for Western forces on June 16, and a subsequent Russian strike on a site linked to the Central Intelligence Agency, were part of a campaign by Moscow to pressure the Obama administration to agree to closer cooperation in the skies over Syria.

I'm sure this has been posted in some form but, with all the other news this weekend, it really deserves a look.

I've read it three times and still can't believe what weak tools Obama and Kerry are.

The military can’t legally place a base in Syria, either by US law or by international law. Syria won’t permit it and no declaration of war against Syria is in effect.

Under the rule of law, everyone involved in putting US forces on Syrian soil would be prosecuted.

Who knows that happened?

This week would be a great week to play it up, since the dems are the “stop Russia” party now.

With hillary in power, we go to war with someone other than muslims. The opposite is true with Trump.

we’re the ones backing the bad guys in Syria.

I an American serviceman was killed, that rises to a whole new level.

Didn’t read about any being killed nor any American planes being destroyed on the ground.

And Russia is supporting the good guys right? Such as Hezbollah, and Assad’s forces who pose a grave threat to Israel and it’s sovereignty.

Wow are you 2 dimensional.

There’s bad and worse.

Our guys are WORSE

And Israel can take care of itself. And you can get a ticket and go help them, if needed :)

Around Israel, there are two types of enemies, bad & worse. Right now ISIS is worse...

They left off the "IS" in front of the "US" as to whom was using the base.

ISIS ISUS.

So far in this conflict Israel has been bombing and fighting Syria, and Hezbollah forces so I guess BIBI didn’t get the memo on the boggie man that is ISIS while there’s no doubt ISIS is a threat to Israel their main concern is is keeping Syria and Hezbollah forces from getting Russian military gear to which they’ll gladly use. against Israeli city’s

I don’t remember ISIS lobbying any rockets or missiles into Israeli city’s or settlements or abducting Jewish citizens like Hezbollah has and it was just ten years ago Israel was in full conflict with them. Also Assad regime is trying to get his hands on Russian military equipment to use against Israel and rally the Islamic nation’s against Israel

The Turks are purging the Gulens, an Islamic sect trying to evolve past the secular rewards limiting the soul’s experience of freedom. IOW, no sharia. The base hit in this article was training Gulen’s followers in military tactics. The people being identified as part of the coup are Gulen followers.

You do know we’re Americans, right?

I fully support Israel and they can CERTAINLY take care of themselves, but ISIS IS killing AMERICANS and you seem to not mention it.

You have every right to go help Israel.

I am for what’s in America’s best interests first.

You’re completely delusional. Syria hasn’t attacked Israel in over 40 years and it would have no incentive to do so as it would be utterly destroyed. Assad isn’t some religious cultist on a suicide mission.

USA has or uses military bases in Syria, against the wishes of the Syrian government? By what legal right? And What are they for?

I don’t have a registration with the WSJ so I can’t read the orignal article, but the excerpt is very confusing.
This is not about coordination in the air but coordination on the ground. The excerpt implies that there are American and British boots on the ground in Syria [!] manning garrisons or bases that are not aligned to Assad [i.e. aligned to one of the opposition factions...which one?] And who took over the base after it was evacuated by the British?

I would trust little that comes from the WSJ.

The nation of Israel faces way more terrorism on a daily basis than we could ever dream about The nation and it’s people are God’s chosen one’s he says he will bless those who bless Israel and curse those who curse Israel. It’s within our interest and the best idea for our nation to stand shoulder to shoulder with the Israel and help fight it’s enemies. Now as far as Assad regime goes the Bible says his reign will come to an end. Isaiah 17 says Israel bombs and destroys Damascus. ISIS will be delt with in the Psalms 83, conflict.
