Trump appalls them. They fear his election would both endanger the country and destroy the Republican Party as a home for principled conservatism. They desperately want Trump to lose, and the harder he falls the better their chances of restoring coherence to their party.
But for Trump to lose, Hillary Clinton must win. Disaffected conservatives must do more than not support Trump. They must lay off Clinton.
They don't have to like her, and they don't have to hold back forever — just until the election. In the meantime, though, they should stop demonizing her.

When the rubber meets the road, 95% of libs will vote for Clinton and 95% of conservatives will vote for Trump. The questions is not about the bases’ support, but the ability to pull independents. Trump appears to have a large edge. Unless he does really crazy like 9/11 truthering or Holocaust denials, I think it is safe to say that he has independents in his bag.

Their lack of support for Trump which improves Hillary’s chances shows they are willing to destroy the nation because they don’t like Trump. Never again will I ever support the GOPe nominee because he/she is the lesser of two evils. We’ve done that for the last several election cycles and when it comes for the GOPe and supposed conservatives to support the party’s (and people’s) nominee — they don’t. They are mentally ill if they think Hillary is better than Trump for the country and their actions speak volumes about their character.
