Ten dollars probably would not kill the economy. But there would be a whole lot fewer jobs for illegal immigrants, so we would need to tighten up on immigration.

"But the thing is, Bill, let the states make the deal."

Trump is very perceptive and correct here. The cost of living varies so much from State to State that the Fed should not be setting one-size-fits-all minimum wages. If you are going to have a minimum wage it should be set by the state.

He was just saying 10 was a reasonable rate. But he is still for letting states make the call. Things said in interviews must be viewed in context.

If $10, why not $15? What is to stop from $20 or $100?

The only fair minimum wage is $0.00 per hour.

The government has no constitutional authority to set the wages paid to employees by a private business owner.

Bad answer. The minimum wage is whatever wage level that is needed to attract and retain workers with the needed skills to do the job. That varies among occupations and geographical regions. Why couldn’t Trump say that?

You can’t support the federal minimum wage being increased and then say the states can decide for themselves.

Trump wants to leave it up to each state because economies in each state are different - but also said he’d be for some sort of a special lower wage for teenagers and others just starting out in the job market - so in essence he’s not for a real federal “minimum wage” except in name only....

Most employers are already starting new hires at 9 to 10 to start...

So no big deal here...

let the states do it. If California, Michigan, Maine, Vermont and Massachusetts want to destroy what’s left of the private sector let them and invite all the workers to come on down to Texas and Oklahoma if they want to work instead of living in government housing projects living off food stamps and dodging bullets.

Its refreshing to see a President who has respect for the federal nature of the Republic. Trump is entitled to his personal view but he is correct that this is entirely for states to decide.

What a refreshing change from Obozzo and Bad Boy Bush

I personally think the Minimum Wage should be ZERO.

Ask anyone outside of the FR Bubble if there should be a Minimum Wage and 9 out of 10 will say yes. That is the reality we face.

Trump was responding to Bernie Lying. He also said that the States have to decide since the Cost of Living varies from State to State.

If ANYONE thinks the Federal Minimum Wage will ever be eliminated please let me know when you start breeding Unicorns, I would like to buy one.

"The Republican presidential nominee was pressed to provide a specific number by Fox News anchor Bill O'Reilly, who said, "there has to be a federal minimum wage.""

Democratic operative (my opinion) Bull oReily wrongly ignores that the states have never delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to establish a national minimum wage. This is evidenced by the following.

Regardless what FDR’s state sovereignty-ignoring activist justices wanted everybody to think about the scope of Congress Commerce Clause powers (1.8.3), a previous generation of state sovereignty-respecting justices had clarified that the states have never expressly constitutionally delegated to the feds the specific power to regulate INTRAstate commerce.

So the feds don’t have the constitutional authority to regulate vote-winning minimum wage imo.

Note that while I will gladly vote for Trump for president, Constitution-savvy patriots will need to get constitutionally low-information Trump up to speed on the federal government’s constitutionally limited powers.

a very important fact often over looked is the prevailing actual minimum wage.

I would not be surprised if it wasn’t actually near $10 in many many places

In past raises, the rise was actually catching up with reality and no economic harm was done
