Despite recent rhetoric against the fastest-growing religion in the world, Islam has contributed a great deal to the U.S., including in the military, Defense Department figures show.
Muslims have played an essential part in guarding the homeland and fighting for its interests in war-torn countries the world over, fighting in all major U.S. wars, including the Civil War, World War I, World War II and the Vietnam War, according to military officials. More recently, Muslims have also served in the Gulf War, Iraq War and the war in Afghanistan.
Here's what the numbers tell us.
There are 5,896 self-identified Muslims currently serving in the military, according to the Department of Defense. This is out of a total of 1,313,940 active-duty and 826,106 guard and reserve members, respectively.
The Department of Defense offers service members the opportunity to identify their faith for inclusion in the Dependent Eligibility Enrollment System, and on their identification tags. If youre wondering why -- its for a very practical reason: for burial practices and religious services in the event of death.
Its important to note that of the 2.2 million in uniform, active or reserve, 400,000 service members have not self-reported their faith. So the total number of Muslims currently serving in the U.S. military is likely higher.

Because it is regrettably true
The skylines in question are not the mud hovels and tents of wandering Bedouins but the indications of civilized society. One of the buildings happens to be the tallest building in the world and two others were the tallest buildings. All are visible proof of civilized society.
The dogma is that there is no Moslem civilization and that ignorant claim is belied by overwhelming number of facts.
In Arabic, the word Islam means submission or surrender...
I think there were more Japanese serving the U.S. during World War II?
Your definition of "civilized society" isn't the same as that of conservative Americans. We see "civilized society" as much more than just buildings, or trains that run on time, or impressive aerospace engineering. We see "civilized society" as something based on the values of the society, and how the society operates.
By contrast, you seem to be willing to equate civilized society to architecture. I suggest you take a look at the building ISIS uses for its headquarters in Raqqa, Syria. The building is pretty impressive architecturally. Or Templehoff airport, built by a notoriously uncivilized tyranny.
It has always been the position of Christ and His Church that the Church is involved in the business of spreading The Gospel and developing His Flock, not by supporting demons and their followers who are intent on destroying it.
It is one thing to give a non-Christian the Gospel and pray for their salvation and reconciliation to God. It is quite another to support and encourage them in their endeavor to destroy Christ's message and His Church not only by word but by deed as well.
So, whose side are these progressive 'churches' on, anyhow? I fail to see how they are on the side of Jesus despite their ego-swelling words and self-described good intentions.
Many of these 'churches' aren't churches at all. They are just fronts set up by scheming demorats to help muslims get dispersed throughout the country and at the same time get big money for doing so. Of course, these scuzzy scumbags, like fraud 'church organizer', Matt Authier are making a fortune.
Your post is Right on Mark!
More than 5,000 Muslims Serving in US Military, Pentagon Says (December 8, 2015 story)>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Sine only a few would defend Israel, most should be discharged from the US military.
Somebody has to toss grenades into their buddies tents, or have we forgotten that?
What outcome do you favor if you do not already hope Hillary loses?
Hand grenade but he was just homesick or something. Completely unrelated to Islam. </s>
We have been doing it for years. We let them into our nuclear programs and virtually every military weapons program, nothing new here move along now. Can you say CIA, Homeland Security or Chief of staff?
As I recall the Clintons used Military in the White House as servants. They loath the military, as Bill said when he refused to report for reserver service as he had promised before his draft number became to high to matter.
Not possible, Congress would never put up with this outrage. Right?
I have a serious problem with this quote: “Islam has contributed a great deal to the U.S”
ummm NO! most of the Muslims who joined the military, along with a decent amount of others, but not most, joined for the pension and free stuff (like education). The sick devilish death cult called Muslimism has not contributed JACK to the US, ever.
I agree 100%, however, I believe (as I know others do) that there is a specific problem with Islam in this respect. According to their religion, it is perfectly acceptable for a muslim to denounce Islam, appear to embrace Christianity, and appear to embrace the values (or at least what they used to be) of American society, all the while being 100% deceitful in order to burrow into Western societies with malignant intent.
If an 18 year old Buddhist comes here from a foreign country, even a hostile one, and says he wants to be an American, believes in our political system, and will adhere to our laws and societal norms, I wouldn't even blink, and would welcome him with open arms.
If an 18 year old Jew comes here from a foreign country, even a hostile one, and says he wants to be an American, believes in our political system, and will adhere to our laws and societal norms, I would say "Welcome!".
If an 18 year old Shintoist comes here from a foreign country, even a hostile one, and says he wants to be an American, believes in our political system, and will adhere to our laws and societal norms, I would donate money to help him.
If an 18 year old Hindu comes here from a foreign country, even a hostile one, and says he wants to be an American, believes in our political system, and will adhere to our laws and societal norms, I would not stand in his way.
If an 18 year old Wiccan comes here from a foreign country, even a hostile one, and says he wants to be an American, believes in our political system, and will adhere to our laws and societal norms, I might not like his religion (whatever that is) but I would not oppose him.
If an 18 year old Christian comes here from a foreign country, even a hostile one, and says he wants to be an American, believes in our political system, and will adhere to our laws and societal norms, I might offer to sponsor him.
If an 18 year old Muslim comes here from a foreign country, ESPECIALLY a hostile one, and says he wants to be an American, believes in our political system, and will adhere to our laws and societal norms, I cannot bring myself to trust him.
My personal philosophy on this is that I would have to examine each muslim in context. If I worked with a muslim student, got to know him over a long period of time, I would have to take into account what I knew of him and judge him on that. I might be wrong, and misjudge this person, and I would have to live with that, but having worked with and gone to school with Muslims, I can personally see no other way myself.
If I knew an Iraqi who had worked as a translator for our forces, had fingered bad guys on his own, had credentials to show he hated the radical islamists and/or had the scalps to prove it or personal endorsement of US Military he had worked with, I would take that into account as well.
Furthermore (and this is my opinion as an American citizen) any Muslim who is already here as a US citizen, must be accepted fully and treated as such, even if we may end up being wrong about a given individual, and they end up causing us harm. We must do that.
But to to allow a 18 year old muslim from Syria (AN "UNACCOMPANIED CHILD" AS THEY MIGHT BE DESIGNATED BY OUR OWN GOVERNMENT!)...NO. No. I would not just accept thousands of these "children". I think it is madness, and I think it is going to result in the deaths of Americans whose own taxes paid are used (agains their will and common sense) to bring un-vetteded military age men here and pay for their upkeep. AND THEY CANNOT BE VETTED.
Do I take joy in the fact that they can't be trusted, and we should DENY them entrance into this country? I don't. I wished we lived in a different world where we COULD take them in with open arms and give them a chance at a new life as an American.
While we never hear of people blowing up crowded market places shouting "Praise Buddha", "Praise the God of Abraham", "Praise my Ancestors", "Praise Vishnu", "Praise The Horned God", or contrary to what liberals would have you believe, "Praise Jesus", WE DO hear someone yelling "Allahu Akbar". We hear this at nearly every mass atrocity perpetrated throughout the modern world.
If we weren't so damned suicidal, we WOULD prohibit immigration of muslims from any country, but particularly, any muslim country. But because we are run by pea-brained liberals who think that because we love, trust, and intend to treat them well, they will love, trust, and treat us well...the mere logical and commonsense suggestion that we should avoid welcoming them en-masse into our country to live amongst us, well, that is the furthest thing from their minds.
The best prevention is abstention............
That's the point.
Our First Amendment was designed to deal with a problem that mankind has had for thousands of years. Escaping Puritans, Pilgrims and Huguenots brought a desire for something better to our continent.
There is a component of Islam that is incompatible with western civilization. Maybe it needs to evolve as other religions have, but, right now there is a problem.
God bless and be safe.
