Despite recent rhetoric against the fastest-growing religion in the world, Islam has contributed a great deal to the U.S., including in the military, Defense Department figures show.
Muslims have played an essential part in guarding the homeland and fighting for its interests in war-torn countries the world over, fighting in all major U.S. wars, including the Civil War, World War I, World War II and the Vietnam War, according to military officials. More recently, Muslims have also served in the Gulf War, Iraq War and the war in Afghanistan.
Here's what the numbers tell us.
There are 5,896 self-identified Muslims currently serving in the military, according to the Department of Defense. This is out of a total of 1,313,940 active-duty and 826,106 guard and reserve members, respectively.
The Department of Defense offers service members the opportunity to identify their faith for inclusion in the Dependent Eligibility Enrollment System, and on their identification tags. If you’re wondering why -- it’s for a very practical reason: for burial practices and religious services in the event of death.
It’s important to note that of the 2.2 million in uniform, active or reserve, 400,000 service members have not self-reported their faith. So the total number of Muslims currently serving in the U.S. military is likely higher.

Washington also said that “...there can be no greater error than to expect, or calculate upon real favours from Nations.” A nation relying on the altruism of others would “pay with a portion of its Independence” for that conceit..."
At best, liberals are playing with our blood to justify their desire for altruism. At worst, they are taking this approach with Syrian "refugees" to deliberately undermine America.
Senator Joseph McCarthy said in his ill advised ghost-written book America's Retreat From Victory that if George Caitlett Marshall had been working in the best interests of the United States and was just making the wrong decisions out of incompetence, at least some portion of those bad decisions would have been in our favor.
One might think exactly that same line of thought when examining the actions of American liberals, including the current administration.

You are 100% correct. It is so obvious. The current administration is ideological and therefore purposefully “transforming” America.
It has become difficult, if not impossible, to avoid entertaining that possibility.

I didn't even have to know her to say she was a pos towel head then and she is still a POS towel head now. I could tell then, by her eyes....by the murderous way she looked at me, she had nothing but contempt for Americans.
rlmoral, with times the way they are now, how can you Guarantee me that that towel head manager (Am citizen or not!)hasn't become radicalized? The world must treat Muhammadanism the way the world treats Nazism today. Islam/Muhammadanism is far worse and has slaughtered far more. This is a cult trying to pass itself off as “a religion”. Nobody says you have to trust anyone. The government can’t mandate it, and I can’t tell other people who to trust.
And that doesn’t mean I would trust even a single muslim who is an American citizen, nor did I say I would trust them. I don’t believe anything about trust in my post, except for my disdain for liberals who might trust them.
Mr Apple, there are a lot of non-muslim Americans I don’t trust, but that doesn’t give me the option to be able to boot them out of the country, any more than not trusting muslims who are American Citizens the option to have them deported. We do have a Constitution we are supposed to abide by.
I don’t like that fact I have to adhere to it any more than you do, but there it is.
