Despite recent rhetoric against the fastest-growing religion in the world, Islam has contributed a great deal to the U.S., including in the military, Defense Department figures show.
Muslims have played an essential part in guarding the homeland and fighting for its interests in war-torn countries the world over, fighting in all major U.S. wars, including the Civil War, World War I, World War II and the Vietnam War, according to military officials. More recently, Muslims have also served in the Gulf War, Iraq War and the war in Afghanistan.
Here's what the numbers tell us.
There are 5,896 self-identified Muslims currently serving in the military, according to the Department of Defense. This is out of a total of 1,313,940 active-duty and 826,106 guard and reserve members, respectively.
The Department of Defense offers service members the opportunity to identify their faith for inclusion in the Dependent Eligibility Enrollment System, and on their identification tags. If you’re wondering why -- it’s for a very practical reason: for burial practices and religious services in the event of death.
It’s important to note that of the 2.2 million in uniform, active or reserve, 400,000 service members have not self-reported their faith. So the total number of Muslims currently serving in the U.S. military is likely higher.

Trumps point is that we should not be bringing large numbers of these people into the country. Nobody really knows what it is about the religion that sets off violent crime. Our first concern is the safety of our citizens.
The religion seems to have a component that is incompatible with western civilization.
Not even close, while most current terrorists are Muslim, the Provisional IRA, Bader Meinhof Gang, the Italian Red Brigades, and FARC in Colombia are or were examples of non Muslim terrorist groups.
Historically the KKK, Viet Cong, and various anarchist groups would qualify.
Islamic terrorism is just the most prevalent current flavor of man’s inhumanity to man.
How many of those groups had a stated goal of worldwide subjugation of anyone not actively participating in their terrorism?
With a 1400 year track record of inhuman barbarity, I would say they are the most persistent..
I’m sure we can easily find replacement for those 5000 enlisted Muslims, and by not allowing any new ones in we could avoid future atrocities like San Bernardino, Orlando, Boston, and possibly future 9/11, not to mention the hundred of billions of dollars we spend on surveillance of all the potential terrorists.
To me it’s an absolute no-brainer. I want to know why do we need even one more in our country.

But, face it folks, the Dems care nothing for soliders and their service, sorry but under Obama they basically hate America, and its military. I’m sorry that the Muslim solider’s parents are TOO STUPID to realize this, TOO STUPID to realize that if they or their son were a Jew, or a Roman Catholic, or an Evangelical Christian they would NEVER have been asked to speak at the Democratic Party Convention.

None of them were known to behead living human beings, or work for world domination, or stone women to death, or burn captured humans in cages, or run down children & women & men using trucks.
Muslims have been incompatible for 14 centuries with Hindu’s in India.
A significant number could be agnostics or atheists. I read about 10 years ago that those figures were comparable to the number of people with tatoos. At that time about 16%. Although soldiers can identify as atheist or humanist, the 400,000 could still include a large number who would not want to self identify as atheist or agnostic.

Posted on another thread that since 2001 14 US military personnel of muslim faith have been killed in action. During the same time 14 US military personnel have been killed by muslims in the US army.
the sacrifice of the soldier son is not made more important just because he and his family are moslams...
there are thousands of Christian boys from families who go back hundreds of years in our country who have died fighting our enemies in Iraq/Afghanistan..
families who have given sons for generations in all the wars...
