Russia is preparing a conference on defense of Christians in the world this autumn

This autumn Russia will hold the second conference on defense of Christians in the world, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in his interview for the website of the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society (IOPS), reports the TASS news agency.

“In addition to demonstrating by our personal example of the importance of establishing good relations between different faiths, it is also vital to hold special events,” the minister said. “Let us be honest; today Christians in the Middle East region are suffering very serious persecutions, especially in Syria and Iraq. In these countries their number has dwindled dramatically.”

In his view, the exodus of Christians from the region that is the cradle of Christianity “would be, beyond all doubt, an enormous tragedy in the history—for the spiritual side of the Holy Land as well as the whole of the Middle East.” “And so, together with IOPS, our government bodies, we are actively using world organizations in order to call attention to this daunting problem,” S. Lavrov added.

The Russian Federation’s Foreign Minister noted that one and a half years ago, “we held the first conference in defense of Christians” in Geneva (Switzerland) together with representatives of the Vatican and our colleagues from Lebanon and Armenia. “We are currently preparing the second conference, which will be a large-scale one,” he said. “It is scheduled for autumn 2016. We are convinced that the participation of IOPS in its work will make it more effective”.

After they just passed a law forbidding evangelism and proselyting.

I think that law was past because of the proselyting for Islam, which has caused a kinds of problems in Russia. I know the Evangelical Christians are going to get hit, but I think it was set up to go after the Muslims.

Their law was designed to target Islam. The law is selectively enforced.

He’s doing the job of protecting Christians that Vatican City, the District of Criminals, and Brussels just won’t do.

Once again, our former cold war enemy, headed by a KGB colonel, is doing things that make my head spin.

For a lot of folks, human history began about two years ago. They don't even know what you're talking about. Putin knows that.

If I may interject: Putin's version of Christianity is the Russian Orthodox Church. Muslims and members of other Christian denominations will most likely be prosecuted under the new anti proselytizing laws

I assume by “Christians”, the Russians really mean the Orthodox church in Russia and not all other denominations. I suspect the rest will be a risk for persecution.

That’s silly. A significant part of Russia’s southern territory is majority Muslim and they are protected by laws as long as they don’t engage in sedition. Yes, the Orthodox Church enjoys a special status in Russia, as it should being the bedrock of Christianity in that country and one of the foundations of Russian society and civilization. But all of the world’s major religious confessions including Jews, Catholics and Protestants are free to practice their faith in Russia.

The law you are referring to is designed to combat religious cults and organized criminal enterprises masquerading as religions. Examples would include Scientology which is illegal in Russia and the Jehovah’s Witnesses which is (rightly IMHO) treated as a pseudo-Christian cult and whose proselytizing is severely frowned upon.

They have ONE Christian church only-—One true Faith-—and the government (State) will be in partnership with that established Orthodox “church”......LOL——we know what communism/top-down totalitarianism is all about.....Mind Control of the Masses. A vast brainwashing system of totalitarianism (slavery).

Christianity is about FREE WILL (Choice)-—it is a concept created ONLY by true Christianity which promotes TRUE FREEDOM of the Mind.

Hint: Jesus is a POLITICAL person as much as a religious person. EVERY idea is based on FAITH and all ideas are POLITICAL-—ALL OF THEM. Humans are “political animals” (Aristotle). You can’t separate Faith and Reason ever, or Politics and Religion from a people, EVER. It is dehumanization to do it—even to a degree. Truth can only exist with Freedom and without Truth, there is no Freedom.

But you can and SHOULD separate an establishment of a Church by the State (Theocracy)-—and give people the FREEDOM to CHOOSE which is a fundamental God-Given Right (in Christianity ONLY—which is the ONLY religion which embraces Natural Law Theory (Objective Truth/Science).

Subsidiarity (family/basic unit of political control which is truly Christian (Catholic)) has parents choosing the education of their OWN children, making decisions for their own children, since Natural Duty is ESSENTIAL to FREEDOM and promoting truth, morality and Reality (Natural Laws).

—when the State takes over the family (Reality) and destroys Free Will (indivdiualism) for the forced Collective (for communism), they are FORCING (enslaving) the people to “think” inside one box (Mind Control).

Chrisitanity is about Freedom to Choose (critical thinking is only possible with understanding Natural Law/Classical Education)/Wisdom of the Ages)-—and Marxism is totalitarianism (slavery only/group-think only/One Worldview allowed only (serfdom).

So, for a truly Christian nation, one has to be based on subsidiarity and freedom. ( bottom up system of politics). Top Down NEVER works-—is always corrupt and fascism (like Common Core/Obamacare which are Marxist systems of brainwashing and unconstitutional).

>members of other Christian denominations will most likely be prosecuted under the new anti proselytizing laws

In Russia, just like in America laws are enforced differently for different groups. In America the government favors Muslims over Christmans as seen with the gay cake crap. In Russia they favor Christains over Muslims and the laws will be enforced accordingly.

Russia is one of the states that fully backs Christanity. We should be celebrating that.
