Sam Wei, a 26-year-old financial analyst in Chicago, has not had sex since her last relationship ended 18 months ago. She makes out with guys sometimes, and she likes to cuddle.
“To me, there’s more intimacy with having someone there next to you that you can rely on without having to have sex,” she said. “I don’t want to do anything that would harm the relationship and be something that we can’t come back from.”

It’s a less sexy time to be young than it used to be, despite millennials’ reputation as bed-hoppers frolicking like the characters on “Girls.” A study published Tuesday in the journal Archives of Sexual Behavior finds that younger millennials — born in the 1990s — are more than twice as likely to be sexually inactive in their early 20s as the previous generation was. Even older millennials are more sexually active than this younger group is.
Recent research also shows that overall, millennials — people born between the early 1980s and 2000 — have fewer sexual partners than the baby boomers and those in Generation X, the group immediately preceding them.

IMO, a simple cop-out. Wonder how that compares to the non-US countries not so hung up on the human body being ‘bad’? Trip 25yrs ago to Europe, I noted the liberal leanings re: advertisements, TV, red-light districts....same with alcohol. Not ‘hushed-up’ and hidden-away like here.
Could it be the advances in chemistry? Everything plastic\BPAs, pesticides, fluoride in our water, etc.
Our food? Additives, enhanced, GMOs, little organic/home grown/home made

Yes- exactly! They only hang around in groups, but the boys and girls never seem to pair off. Proms and homecomings are ridiculous. Girls spending hundreds of dollars on dresses, hair and makeup seemingly just to impress each other. They go in huge single-sex groups and dance together in a mob. If a boy and girl do go ‘together’ they spend the whole night explaining and proving to everyone else that they are ‘just friends’ so as not to draw the ire of all the others that don’t have ‘dates’. I despair of ever having grandchildren.
Maybe, but I'd hope to see more indications that such things have been happening.
Since I read the article with this idea in mind--if anyone would give such reasons for abstinence--some of the stories are interesting. For example, one of the people interviewed doesn't have sex, but he "likes porn." A college student isn't "saving [herself] for anything" (notice that she's not quoted as saying "saving myself for marriage"), and she thinks that sex will just "happen" sometime. She also reports her parents' worries about her, and her mother, who "hooked up all the time in college," wonders if her daughter is "gay" because she isn't having all that nice extramarital sex.
The younger ones grew up with porn programmed to their particular exotic preferences, causing some to be unable to function with the opposite sex. Others have simply been acclimated to technological alternatives so human interaction isn’t necessary for sex.
The bizarre trend is for some women who are virgins having artificial insemination to have children, the true 1984 divorcing of sex and love from family.

So do all those anti-depression or anxiety drugs a lot of them take suppress libido.

So true. I'm married to a Chinese-American gal, she's got no butt but makes fun of mine calling my white butt a bubble-butt (they run big in my family). Thankfully, our kids take after her and are slender. Closing in on fifty years together, and she still has great legs and a young figure.

When you are taught to treat something special like it is a chore then it quickly becomes one.
The end result is why would they want to have sex.
